Does anyone else smell a rat with regard to these anti-migrant protests in Tijuana? The fact that they are engaged in Trumpian sloganeering reeks of agents provacateurs, IMHOâŚ
It reeks of busloads being driven in, anyway.
Yes. And I think we already learned last year that Russian agents were fomenting similar astroturfy protests in other South American countries. Wish I had a link handy, but it has been a busy year for news.
If just one, ONE Trump admin lackey asked, âWhy are they coming to Amerika?â it would be cheaper than photo op stunts like sending the military down there to rake sand.
Itâs all a setup. I believe these people are honest refugees, but the organization around the start was probably a right wing group in the US, timed to the election. Now we all deal with the aftermath, Paid with our tax dollars. Any time Trump is tweeting about an obscure event, it is a propaganda play by the right wing. Itâs really the only facet of his PR that is predictable. Other than the constant lies.
Itâs part of a slow moving coup attempt in the US.
That thought crossed my mind on Saturday.
If AP is to be believed (!), Tijuana has a population of 1.6 million (1.3m in 2010 say the intertubes, so sounds plausible). That would make it the 7th largest city in the US, give or take, if it were north of the border. So finding a few hundred people to do a public protest of pretty much anything shouldnât be difficult.
It does cast a little doubt on the claim that the city is going to have trouble finding space for a few thousand people waiting to apply for asylum.
Noted!
Juana Rodriguez, a housewife, said the government needs to conduct background checks on the migrants to make sure they donât have criminal records.
What kind of poppy-cockery is this??? Background checks? On homeless migrants? From a country less developed than Mexico? Seriously? Not knowing anything about Juana Rodriguez, iâll have to give her the benefit of the doubt on this and assume that sheâs not as dumb as that sounds, but Dios! Omnipotente! That sounds exactly like what an uneducated T rumpp Republican would say.
Theyâre raking sand so that thereâs no fires down there. Duh.
It also makes claims that this is an âinvasionâ look pretty absurd.
For comparison:
- Burning Man accepts 70,000 âinvadersâ every year.
- The Xcel Energy Center in Minneapolis, MN can hold 20,000 invaders.
Iâll bet they didnât close off the Otay Mesa crossing. Because money talks.
My town of 8000 accepts about 5000 âinvadersâ every day, albeit things would get interesting if they all decided to stay overnight. Oh, wait, sometimes they do.
This entire fiasco is just political theater. The local San Diego teevee news is full of footage of guys sitting on top of the border fence as if they are going to jump right into the waiting arms of the border patrol a few feet away. Credible only to the credulous. The reichwing stations play this for half the newscasts. You wonder who is paying them to sit up there.
More theater on the TJ side of the border as residents are blaming the massive inconvenience of the crossing constrictions on the caravan. Because of the high cost of living in San Diego, lots of people live in TJ and cross every day to go to work.
Thatâs what I was saying before the election. I have always thought that the timing was just too fucking convenient.
Instead of looking at all of this âspectacleâ in the short term, Mexico and the US are going to have a major humanitarian crisis on our hands over the next six months. No matter what you think of how or why these folks are now in Tijuana, they are and it goes against our nature to let refugees just suffer.
It is time for some real adults to step up.
If only we could find someone in charge who believed in the value of human life.
I believe San Ysidro is not just the busiest border crossing between Mexico and the USA, but is in fact the busiest land-based border crossing in the world.
All high-level San Diego traffic reports consist of the largest freeway closures and time to cross at San Ysidro. Crossing San Ysidro is part of the daily commute for thousands of people in the San Diego - Tijuana area.
Edit: Yep, hereâs a BBC article about the worldâs busiest border crossing with 50 million people crossing it per year, 136,000 people a day.
Then why did Trump send the military to the Texas border?
[I would imagine the answer is because our governor let him.]
Are you asking me that?
