Yawn… yes. The e-mails. Scaaaary… what could possibly be in those e-mails!! The horror …
Out of curiosity and on a totally unrelated matter, how well has the Benghazi (Fake) Scandal Machine been doing lately?
Indeed. Ms. Catherine Thompson has clearly laid out her application to any right-wing media outlet with this thorough shill-job for the GOP.
TPM has truly hit an all-time low with this article. And that is saying a lot. It is reprehensible on many levels. Not just the fact that Ms. Thompson is shilling for the GOP but that anyone at TPM would let this time of right-wing propaganda be published. It is horrid to think Ms. Thompson might actually be proud of this intellectually lazy article whose sole purpose is to encourage the right-wing meme.
Why does this remind me of Whitewater? A bogus investigation into a non-event turns up a slight peccadillo which the GOP keeps fanning until it takes on the appearance of a scandal.
Agree, much ado about nothing… I’ll believe there is something there when those who gave the Bush WH (Cheney, Powell, Rice, etc) a walk when they destroyed millions of emails, used private servers and only received a yawn start investigations about those “illegal” acts as they are with Hilary.
To be fair, Josh once stated here in the comments this isn’t a left leaning site.
It’s a fair and balanced equal opportunity site.*

How Hillary Clinton’s Emails Ended Up Dogging Her Campaign
Hummm let me guess, the Republicans realized they’d beat the dead horse of Benghazi to death so needed something else to claim was a major scandal that might pull some undecided voters away from Hillary and this was the nearest thing to something real they could find? Sorry a little long winded.
The email story is a Red Herring. No one cares about it. Her numbers are down because people don’t want her in the White House. It has nothing to do with misogyny, either. Elizabeth Warren would be doing much better. Clinton is not electable. She is totally uninspiring.
This is just more of the tone deafness democrats are famous for.
Here is what I bet is not being said because of actual, legitimate fears: it’s possible that Hillary Clinton’s personal e-mail server was MORE secure than sos.gov. No one, least of all her or the agency wants to say that publicly for pretty obvious reasons.
It is not entirely due to misogyny, but sorry, you will never convince me that this has nothing at all to do with misogyny, and you are dreaming if you think Warren would be doing better. Warren may have inspiring ideas but she is not personally inspiring when she speaks. I like Sanders too – I’m going to vote for whoever the Democratic nominee is.
Surprised that TPM has gone with this. Benghazigate went nowhere. And the “media” can be relied upon to exaggerate anything doing with the Clintons. The Feds are investigating. Why not wait for that outcome. The RWing will say anything negative about the Clintons - SOP - and the NYT, Wapo and CNN will follow. After watching Whitewater, the Starr fiasco and Chris Matthews hard balls for months I gave up on the Fourneirs and Scarboroughs of the MSM long ago. I hope TPM does not feel the need to engage is that kind of reporting. I want to see Hillary, Bernie and anyone else on the Dem side engage, debate, flesh out positions. I think I can make up my mind without Breitfart.
How Hillary Clinton’s Emails Ended Up Dogging Her Campaign
As one who has frequented TPM since inception-- I may have some right-- or at the least offer the perspective-- to flay this article publicly for what it is.
It’s a cynical piece of clickbait.
It’s sole purpose is to garner some sliver of revenue from a topic that RWNJ media outlets are thriving upon.
To reflect on the quote of Josh’s via TLQ’s post above-- I’ll do cynical one better:
It’s a fair and balanced equal profitability site.
Truly fair and balanced would have been to go headlong into this bit of Swiftboating-fakery with the same verve that TPM once doggedly applied to the U.S. Attorney scandal some years back (2006?). An effort that reaped prominence and awards bestowed for TPM by way of actual journalism.
What a sad, decade-long turn of events.

Sorry y’all, but this criticism sounds more like partisan bedwetting. It was a good article, not an answer to any concerns or a judgement on Secretary Clinton’s actions. Sheesh.
The article discusses factual information, that the email thing has “dogged her campaign”. Her ratings have plummeted since all this started, so one can’t debate if this is true, it’s a fact. It’s not propaganda when the numbers clearly spell it out.
Furthermore, this article does not go far enough in saying what she did, because it only references a “private email”, not a “private server”, which is the larger issue. Had she used yahoo, aol, gmail, etc., it’s not as big a deal since those are commonly used. A private server is another issue entirely. Again, nothing illegal to date that we have seen (and doubtful there is), but she clearly gave a feeling of impropriety by doing all this. It was real dumb, and even SHE has said that. So Hillary has agreed with the premise of this article.
So to write an article on how this has dogged her campaign…when it has done exactly that…seems pretty legit, and is in no way propaganda. I don’t see in this article where the author has claimed she did anything illegal, which is what the RWNJ’s are doing.
I would note that all the Benghazi stuff never really affected her ratings, because most centrist voters know that was BS. But setting up your own private server and doing things completely different than anyone else by doing ALL your government email biz on it definitely does not look good, and SHE should have known that when she set it up. How she did not think this would become an issue is mind-boggling.
Was going to interject the profitablity aspect but I’m lazy.
Increasingly HRC partisans are sitting in a dark room, closing their eyes, and humming loudly. If they do this long enough, the firm belief is that the email disaster will go away.
But it won’t. It is destroying whatever good will she had. It already destroyed the notion that her judgement is good. And most importantly, since she could not see the OBVIOUS FUCKING ICEBERG of this disaster when she set up the server, the notion that she can think ahead of consequences is now utterly destroyed.
She’s unelectable.
Having the benefit of hindsight would of been helpful.
Having the benefit of foresight would have been even more helpful.
And most importantly, since she could not see the OBVIOUS FUCKING ICEBERG of this disaster when she set up the server,
You mean like the previous Secretaries of State who did the same thing? Or maybe she was noticing that when Bush/Cheney not only used a private server, but actually destroyed all the emails on it, that she figured it wouldn’t be a major issue.
But sure, keep beating this IOKIYAR horse.
