The best way to ensure fair districts (IMO) is to have them drawn by a computer using only population data and town boundaries as input. This program should be open source so that anyone can see how it works and the inputs should be drawn made available for inspection to all to ensure that they are not being manipulated. The good news is that such a program is already in existence… Auto-Redistrict.
It is very likely that this would bring howls from both Democrats and Republicans… but that’s just too bad… it is the best way to take politics out of redistricting which should have been the case from the beginning.

You’ve got that right
I experienced it first hand in Florida
We passed a voter referendum on Fair Districts to end the gerrymander.
The Republican legislature fought it tooth and nail for 3 years using 50 million of OUR tax dollars fighting it in court .
The Florida Supreme court finally said enough! and mandated they accept the non partisan districts drawn up by the League of Women Voters.
I like the Auto redistrict even better. I am so sick of Democrats casting 60% of the votes and getting 1/3 of the seats (that’s known as a Republican Fair District Vote)
