Discussion for article #236312
Ted Cruz- “I wouldn’t invade Iraq knowing now what we know, but don’t ask me if I would have invaded then because I wasn’t there…”
In other words- “don’t as me, I’m not as stupid as Bush is and I won’t fall for that trick again.”
“Invading Iraq” could be a Bush family trait, not a pleasant condition…
predicate
The Cruz predicate is to brachiate until he’s laughed from the trees.
So I don’t want to second guess based on what I lack of complete information.
Ironically, once he has what he thinks is complete information, Cruz is consistently wrong. The nation is better off doing the opposite of what he thinks. Cruz is like the George Costanza of the Senate; only more petty and unlikeable, with the power to do great harm.
Oh, EVERY republican candidate is going to be lining up to answer this question. Like I said yesterday, this is a big fat slow ball right in the middle of the strike zone…who wouldn’t take a swing at it? JEB made a huge unforced error, to keep with the baseball metaphor, and everyone knows it. What’s even worse, as Josh pointed out yesterday, this is an error that won’t go away…it creates more problems for Jeb as he know has to debate the absolute worst parts of his brother’s administration, when the obvious go-to strategy was not to even acknowledge he has a brother.
This is like getting the answer sheet to the test after the test has already been given. It matters less what these fucking GoOPers say on the war in Iraq than what Jebya had to say on the matter. Jebya’s admission is disastrous because he’s another fucking BUSH, with an entire foreign policy team directly from the neocon wing of his brother and father’s group of advisors. There’s no denying that there’s no daylight between them now.
Besides, no matter what Cruz, Christie or any of the other GOP bozos have to say on Iraq, they’re all for more bombs and boots on the ground in the Middle East, and of course, bombing the hell out of Iran. Just about all of them are willing to provoke and instigate another Middle East war if given the opportunity. And diplomacy is a dirty word to all of them.
I’m shocked at this response from Ted Cruz. He must really see an opening to get rid of Jeb Bush if he’s throwing off his neo-con bona fides!
Bush wisdom:
There’s never been a bad war or a profitable peace…
actually I am as stupid as bush But atleast I know how to hide it when answering some questions…otherwise Im as basacwards and ignorant as they get
Cruz wouldn’t attack? Wow. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a softball hit that hard.
Jeb has set the bar pretty low here. What’s next? “Candidate X, knowing what we know now, would you still have invested your entire pension fund in Enron stock?” Candidate X: “Why, yes, yes I would.”
The feeding frenzy begins. IMO Jebya does not want to run and is committing a slow political suicide. What does the Bush Crime Family gain from this debacle? What does the GOP gain from another Bush candidacy? This is a political party devoid of the ability to chart a course to anything but failure.
Enjoying the hell out of the spectacle.
Jeb’s Bush is toast. Ted Cruz’s answer was pretty good and articulated his nuanced position well.
The Bush family has received enormous amounts of money and favors from the Saudi royal family. George W and Jeb are de facto honorary members of the king’s inner sanctum. They would pretty much do whatever was asked of them.
this question is easy as hell to answer regardless of the candidate’s party, for anybody not named Bush. I don’t think it was that hard to answer for Jeb either. I can think of several graceful ways to say “no” without making it seem like throwing his brother under the campaign bus. But Jeb fucked that up too. Apparently the inability to think on one’s feet is a Bush family trait.
To extend the sportsball analogy, this is exactly like spotting your opponent two touchdowns in the first two minutes of the game. You might get back in the game but you’re going to spend most of the rest of the time on the field doing it, and you can’t make any more big mistakes.
The reporter should have followed up with questions about Iran.
Among other things, Cruz has stated that Iran must give up its nuclear program or there must be military action to end it. Crazy John Bolton is an “informal foreign policy advisor” to Cruz, and was one of three people named when asked which foreign policy advisors he trusts. One of the others is Iran-Contra criminal Elliott Abrams. Cruz believes that approval of the deal currently being negotiated with Iran “makes war a certainty”.
It was indeed bipartisan, provided you don’t count the Democrats, who mostly voted no, assuming you just mean Congress. The Democratic base was always against it.
