Discussion for article #241538
Guessing he remembers Charles Whitman in the towerâŚ
âIt allows for concealed handguns into buildings on the stateâs public campuses. (Private schools can opt out.)â
Note the âPrivate Schools can OPT OUTâ.
This way little Brad and Buffy donât have anything to fear in their Exclusive Private School.
Only the âunwashed massesâ in the Public Colleges have to worry if the drooling lunatic siting in the library at 3 AM is packing heatâŚ
Typical âRich White Privilege Lawâ to assuage the Ammo-Sexuals and exempt the Rich.
The professor doesnât want to step up to the plate, be patriotic and open himself to take a bullet for the Second Amendment? And he defects to the University of Sydney??? The cowardice and gall of the man. Dr. Carson will set him straight.
Bastard wonât do his part to keep the Tree of Liberty watered.
Though, with about 33,000 gun deaths per year in the US, I am starting to wonder if the Tree of Liberty is in a kelp forest.
Now thereâs an interesting question: does allowing open carry constitute a material change in conditions of employment?
I often wonder when, and how much these carry everywhere gun policies are going to start to effect local economies. They are going to make it so people think twice about going to the mall, movie theater, out to restaurants etc. If I were a business person I would be very concerned.
I donât know, but as a college professor myself (no guns allowed on my campus), I have wondered how my peers feel about the open carry policy about to impact their workplace. I honestly cannot imagine walking into my classroom with the fear that any normal tensions could escalate into something deadly (let alone being on campus on a Friday night when smart, motivated 19-year olds still get drunk and reckless.)
Hereâs a peer. Allowing concealed carry in accordance with State Law (i.e., you have to be licensed) on public college campuses was discussed by our Lege. In the end, the bill never came to the floor.
If they want to push me into retirement all they have to do is start allowing students to carry weapons on campus. Iâve got the time in to allow me to retire without penalties. I happen to mostly like my job, and Iâd like to keep doing it. But Iâm not interested in doing it if the students are walking around armed with handguns.
âAll colleges are allowed to set their own rules on how firearms can be carried and where. UT Austin has yet to announce its policies.â
But still, good on him. I donât blame him one bit for leaving. The dude has done his time, he doesnât even have to teach classes anymore if he doesnât want to. I would choose Australia over Texas, too.
The new law allows concealed carry.
Think about this: what if you claim a religious liberty objection to working where concealed carry is allowed?
Microeconomics? All any young person needs to know to enter the adult workforce in the U.S. is Jesus rode a dinosaur to home school every day, the Earth is 6000 years old, and not to worry because yes, God will be sure to have gays and Muslims twist in the tortuous fires of hell for all eternity. There, got it? OK, see me for your degree next Tuesday, and good luck job hunting. Youâll make a fine neurosurgeon.
The idea that if everyone was carrying a gun would make things safer is so ludicrous. They didnât used to call it the wild west for nothing. God, just think of all the fuckinâ accidental shootings that will happen, and Iâm just talkingâ about the dumb fucks shooting themselves playing with theirâŚgun.
Sydney >>>>>>> Austin >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Anywhere else in Texas
I havenât been to Sydney, but I have been to Austin and other places in Texas. I would definitely agree with the parts of your statement that I know
Austin is actually a fun town.
TPM, thanks for the whole letter but I cannot read print that small. Enlarging the screen blurs the letters.
I support what this professor is doing.
I taught 1st year med students and over the years there were disagreements between me and a few students who thought they knew more of the subject matter than I did. Had I known or suspected they were carrying Iâd have resigned out of self protection.
This law means any fool can carry concealed into a class room in Texas. The state of Texas should be held accountable for any gun tragedy that results on school grounds as a consequence of their stupid law.
This is the potential result of the stateâs foolishness.
With law-abiding professors heading out of state to protect their own lives, Texas should lower their education bar another notch lower. Who would want to teach in a firing range?
I suspect this âlawâ will be tested in the not-too-distant future, with a lawsuit aimed at both Abbott and the state.
