Discussion for article #229035
People are ridiculous and, well, that’s just the point: I wouldn’t want to be the administrators who had to field angry parent phonecalls if they didn’t cancel this and word got out that an ebola trojan horse had visited their child’s campus.
I’m sure it went something like “we’re sorry you can’t come, but while Athens is a lonely beacon burning in the darkness, it’s light fails about a hundred feet past the city limits and in that darkness, the people who gave the country Newt Gingrich, Paul Broun and Phil Gingery rule.”
This kind of hysteria and idiocy is damaging this country.
Hard to believe they call this place an institution of higher education. I hope they eventually realize how they’ve embarrassed themselves.
that because of all the media crap and political crap and lies about ebola
Hysteria sure, but what misinformation? And frankly, discriminating against peoples in areas where the disease is rampant is exactly how we battle it. The chance of getting it is low, but if one does it means he/she will probably die. WTF do you expect?
The thing with not doing a travel ban, is we then put trust in the average person to be responsible and unselfish about travelling. One dude violated that trust already, now 2 American nurses are ill. Other Americans under watch for higher risk have violated that trust too. People of the modern age are generally stupid and selfish, why should we trust anyone on something this important and risky? I should add, Americans of the modern age are particularly stupid and selfish, making even one violation of that trust by a Liberian even tougher. And, Texas, king of the land of the idiots.
What lies you referring to?
Not. Why would it be embarrassing to not engage in increasing their risk?
