Discussion: Under Trump ICE Becomes Deportation Force

Two things:

When does ICE come knocking at the door of all Trump’s U.S. resorts to deal with all his undocumented employees? I mean, cart all the management away in cuffs, like their real mandate calls them to do.

Can the next Democratic President shut this arm of the government down, fire all its current employees, prosecute all said former employees for crimes against humanity and then rebuild this organization under a sane, humane, democratically passed immigration program?

Prioritizing criminals?

You mean like designating a specific individual as #1?

Strangely written article. Why no mention of what happened to all the people arrested under Obama and the Lump? How many convicted, put in jail or sent out of the country?
Arresting people with no previous arrests? ICE really sounds like a nasty piece of work directed by our most nasty leader.

Anyone seeing “The Handmaid’s Tale” knows that ICE is the tool for the ugly far right wing religious freaks to begin their ugly repressive patriarchy. I found this to be unsurprising. ICE is morphing into a cryptofascist deportation and repression army, and needs its wings clipped as soon as the Trump regime ends.

Along with Trump and Pence, ICE is painting a very ugly face on all Americans. We deserve much better that this, as do all peaceful, hardworking immigrants who arrive to our borders.

Obama ran a very tough deportation policy–not as tough as some claim, because the definition of “deportation” expanded under his administration to cover informal deportation of unlawful border crossers. He still got roasted from the right. It added no value to the Democratic brand, in fact arguable detracted from it.

The takeaway, as it is in so many areas of policy, is that Dems will get roasted by Republicans whatever they do. So they might as well do the right thing, with the minimum of fuss and debate. Just act. Scrap ICE, create a new agency guided by humane values.

I agree that ICE must be abolished. Such highly dysfunctional organizations cannot be “reformed”, and it is not a matter of weeding out “bad apples”. As currently constituted they are all bad.

Abolishing the organization wholesale - what does that mean in terms of civil service protections? Can we just lay them all off then? When the Republicans abolished offices like OTA, didn’t everyone just lose their jobs?

Do people get any kind of day in court or are they put on buses south? I’d heard that was the way it used to work, and, of course, many people coming back again. This is a horribly broken system and it seems odd we don’t hear that much about how it works, but that’s how they want it.

I have to wonder if the guards at Auschwitz or the Einsatzgruppen also felt so put upon?

Yes, I know we haven’t got there yet. But they didn’t start off that way either.

Since Trump intentionally hires illegal immigrants, he is the first one who should be arrested and tried for his crime. A few days in a holding cell should be very educational for him.

So they only occasionally terrorize US citizens. How soothing.

And, given disparate rates of arrest for minor infractions, I’m sure they’re going after the irish, canadians, eastern europeans…

Arresting people going to and from the courthouse is sure going to make people willing to testify think thrice.

Do Trump and ICE supporters really fail to see the breathtaking hypocrisy in, on the one hand, closing down the Government for a “much needed” Wall to “protect our country from drug dealers and human smugglers and the dregs of society”, and on the other hand, employing numerous undocumented workers at his resorts? And not only that, but actively aiding and abetting them by securing fraudulent green cards and social security numbers!!!

If we would arrest and detain employers like Trump, we wouldn’t need politicians like Trump.

“There is a tension around ‘It could be that somebody could find out what I do and hate me for it or do worse than hate me for it,'” Ronald Vitiello, acting head of the agency, told The Associated Press.

Who’d thunk that being a member of the American Gestapo would be unpopular?

Funny thing about that, the largest numbers of “illegal” immigrants are overwhelmingly Canadian.

Fun Fact: Canadians are not known for farm labor here in the US.

Don’t forget to nab the illegal non-Hispanic people too, especially the Russians. I hear they drink a lot, and have gangs that scare the entire Trump organization too.

It’s odd that there’s such a pronounced dearth of news stories about ICE roundups in Brighton Beach.

ICE should really deport Trump to either Putin’s kremlin, or MBS’s kingdom of murder, or perhaps to the North Pole so he can feel how hot it is there due to climate change!

Not too long ago, I would have thought your words hyperbole. No longer.
Check out “It Can’t Happen Here,” 1935 novel by Sinclair Lewis still in print.

There is a portion of our population that enjoys – yes, enjoys – seeing people they despise or fear dragged off by goons. Multiple examples in Italy, Germany, Russia in WW2 and late 1930’s.
Check out “Au revoir les enfants,” [“goodbye kids”] a French film, 1987, based on real events.
