See here I was unaware that college students were exempt from local taxation and laws…wait…what’s that? They aren’t exempt from local taxes and laws? They apply to college students just as much as any other residents? Huh, imagine that…
Back when I was in college, this would have backfired. And given college students another reason to hate conservatives. I hope this backfires, too.
Anyone who sublets or rooms with another person and the utility bills are in that other person’s name would presumably be threatened with a $5K fine to prevent them from registering to vote. It would also deprive the homeless of their voting rights.
That had better not be Constitutional.
We’re on it. This is a BS law, and we are definitely on it. “Perceptions” be damned.
““If you are only going to school in Keene or Durham, and that’s not really where you live, and you’re staying on campus or you’re renting an apartment or you’re part of a frat house, then you don’t really live there. You’re going to school there,””
That’s not what SCOTUS says. Not even remotely. But, the whole Garland block followed by Gorsuch has them all waaaaaaay overexcited about simply re-liltigating the entirety of the past half century of SCOTUS precedent and deliberately manufacturing attempts to do so.
“citing the need to address the “public perception” of widespread voter fraud.”
LOL. Go out and deliberately demagogue and use misinformation campaigns to create an incorrect perception and you too can have your unnecessary dream legislation that addresses the problem you created!!!
Wasn’t aware they changed their motto to Live Conservative or Die.
I rank the conservative assholes in NH as the most smug conservative assholes in the nation. There’s a lot of competition, but their libertarian strain of conservatism gives them a natural advantage in smugnitude.
Where’s that “live free or die” and all that “don’t tread on me” bullshit, now?
Fucking commies.
“Back when I was in college…”
Unfortunately, back in the day, college kids did something. These kids will just pout on social media and make empty threats.
I’m 45 and never had a utility bill in my name or a formal lease until my most recent place, about five years ago. Most places where I live rent month-to-month with utilities paid for.
They gain control and one of the first orders of business is to restrict voting. These guys just cannot keep it in their pants for 5 minutes, can they? What else do people need to know besides the fact that Democrats never legislate to restrict people from voting and Republicans always do? Isn’t that what they call a “tell”?
And by the way, what the fuck happened to New Hampshire?
I wouldn’t be so sure of that. My son is in graduate school - he’s been going out and knocking on doors for the past several Saturdays to register people to vote in our state elections this year. There are quite a few college and young-20s in my Swing Left group. These young people get it, they’re smart as hell and they’re not going to be stopped by Boomers. I envy their energy, but at least I share their passion.
“the “public perception” of widespread voter fraud.”
only exists because Republicans LIE about it every bleeping day.
You’re better than this, NH.
Given their skyrocketing use of heroin and abuse of opiods, it’s also incumbent on legislatures to severely restrict the voting rights of unemployed whites over the age of 40. We can’t really afford to have incredibly irresponsible people like these child-neglecting losers voting for important offices, can we?
I think I would gain a smidgen of respect for a New Hampshire republican pol who admitted that the real reason behind all these voter laws is to hold down the anti-republican vote. Any other stated purpose is pure bullshit and they know it.
“They don’t have life experience, and they just vote their feelings,” he said.
Oh, the old “You’re a liberal when you’re young, but as you get older and learn the ways of the world, you vote conservative, because, well, conservatism is smart and liberalism is dumb” saw.
But let’s say, asshole, that the young librulz elite college studentz vote their feelings. That’s still better than what you and your ilk do, which is to vote the propaganda you’ve been fed (or in your case, the propaganda you help your party generate and probably have fallen for due to how often you repeat it).
While we are all obsessed with the Russians attacking our election just remember that the Republicans have been doing this for decades. George W. Bush and his brother Jeb! stole the Florida election, in part, with a systemic, years-long voter suppression operation.
Every state with a Republican governor seems to be battening down the Democratic hatches while they still can. But NH has 2 Democratic senators, and both members of the house are also Democrats. Interesting to hear from people tonight:

I agree. No disrespect to the OP, but I think the older generation always thinks the younger generations are lazy or X or Y or Z as long as X or Y or Z makes them appear less than the older generation. The whole “millennials are whah whah whah whah” is actually a common bullshit whine from the right. Are some kids lazy? Sure. Has social media changed things, especially for people who grew up with it? Sure. Are they fundamentally different? I’m nowhere near convinced that’s the case.
Vote Republican or Die.
I was just wondering the same thing. Isn’t NH part of the librul northeast/coastal elite? Asshole GOP is even taking over there. Depressing.
