electronic voting machines, which do not create a paper record of the votes
I wonder if we will ever be able to develop the technology to solve that problem.
Paper ballots are still used here in Tucson, AZ. There are some advantages to being a backwater.
āA suspiciously large number of foreign countriesā accessed the machines??
So, a few are ok then??
Sometimes technology does great things for society, some times we would be better served to fall back on the āold ways.ā In this case perhaps a hybred is the answer - paper / electronic. Confidence in the vote is to important to have no trusted verification.
I wonder what countries other than Ukraine were involved?
I was at a gas station once where after I had inserted my card and filled my tank I was offered something it referred to as a āreceiptā. It was a strange process as a paper detailing the recent transaction emerged from a small slot. I was confused, giddy, even enamored. I showed everyone I knew. It now rests in a frame on my wall. Iāve never encountered such a thing since, Sadly Iāve long forgotten the gas stationās location.
āReceipt Yes/Noā though itās still something I see in my head when Iām struggling for sleep on some nights. When itās a bad night I accidentally press āNoā.
And what exactly has the Trump administration done to stop election attacks in the future? Not a damn thing. Just what good is our Republican Department of Homeland Security anyway?
This just in: āA suspiciously large number of unidentified people in unmarked vans have been loitering around the elementary school in recent weeks. But, since we canāt actually prove that these people have ever assaulted or abducted children ā no problem!ā
The professional wrestler known as Kane. Up by 17 votes.
Yeah. He wears a wig like DOTARDUS
Electronic voting machines have been the GOPās wet dream for years; they are the perfect tool for stealing elections. Stuffing ballot boxes is so 1940s. The audacity of even proposing that there be no paper trail is exactly the M.O. of our GOP miscreants. Paper tallies should be mandated by federal law. If voting machines can be paperless, why not our bank accounts? Donāt worry, dear bank depositor, weāll keep track of how much money you have in our trusted bank and donāt worry your pretty little head about it; no need for costly paper statements.
I will go to my grave believing many of the electronic voting machines were hacked in favor of Trump by his Lord & Master Putin.
Breaking up families fleeing murder and kidnapping in their home countries. Theyāre really good at that.
Very off topic folks ā Today is the 26th Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive day with the USPS. Please leave a bag or two at your mail pickup spot for your mail carrier today. Easy-peazy. Spread the wordā¦
You may now return to your regular scheduled programmingā¦
I wonder how much the Ukraine computer operator paid Michael Cohen for unfettered access to the US voting system?
The solutions are there for the taking, but too many Republicans are invested in the status quo. The same party thatās hellbent on preventing Democratic leaning voters from voting. The same party that demands voter ID is okay with a 400 lb. kid living in his motherās basement (aka foreign intelligence agent) hacking into the vote. Go figure.
Individual receipts would be useless for recounts.
You could have a machine spit out the votersā choices while registering something different in the actual totals.
Besides, thereās the danger such receipts could be used as proof you voted for a particular person. Thereās a reason such proofs are against the law, since they could be used in pay-for-votes schemes.
If you could get, say, $50-100 for each receipt proving you voted as the purchaser wished, thereās a large pool of uninformed/lackadaisical/attention-deprived voters who would beā¦umā¦ motivated to vote for the purchaserās candidate.
There is a very easy way to solve the paper trail problem and to allow voting almost anywhere. Without the need to create a special network and/or invest in infrastructure,
It will NEVER be implemented.
How, use ATM machines. ATMs could be programed to allow voting. A pin could be provided for registered voters by election commissions. As with all ATMs a paper receipt could be printed. That would allow early voting over a period just as is done today and also allow election day voting.
Yes you are correct, however, the individual receipt could be just a copy while the machine internally records on paper the vote as well as electronically transmits to the election board. There are any number of easy ways to ensure proper votes without any of your wet dreams about vote buying, etc becoming fact.
And noting also immediately after any transaction on an ATM you can go online and see what transpired
Like undocumented workers , they really donāt want it fixed
How ya going to win if you donāt cheat?
Sheesh
