They should just cut to the chase and ask Rupert Murdoch what sort of deal he would approve. It seems like it is his media outlets, yet again, causing havoc by spoon-feeding bullshit to the gullible, hateful, and stupid.
Trump level planning and policy. Remember he was rooting for it .
His pal Putin is winning every day with the destabilization of Western Democracies and Commerce.
When he said we 'd be sick of winning we did think he was referring to Putin
So either a delay past the EU parliamentary elections or a hard Brexit? Also, this is something that should have been known long before, or has May just been shiv’ed?
What a mess.
I am trying to think of a greater peace-time unforced error of the past hundred years or so (aside from our electing Trump).
I got nuthin’.
Well, good. Maybe they can just put an open-ended extension in place with a plan to do something one of these days… And everyone can just forget about the whole damned deal.
As both a matter of principle and a matter of practice, I have to agree with him. Bringing up the identical horribly-failed vote over and over, with the background specter of ever-increasing do-it-or-else threats, is not only intensely cynical, it is also a terrible way to make public policy.
May just has no other cards in her hand. Barring the appearance of the unicorn, there is no solution a majority wants; the majority wanted the unicorn. I suspect many who will be asked to allow an indeterminate delay for an unknown path to completion will be so sick of this nonsense they’ll just let the UK jump off the cliff next Friday, no net.
"…but the problem is — to do what?”
Smart man.
Belgian Foreign Minister Didier Reynders agreed, saying: “We are not against an extension in Belgium, but the problem is — to do what?”
Europeans are all getting sick of Neurotic Perfidious Albion.
You ain’t lyin" I got nuthin either
If you didn’t get a chance listen to John Oliver’s in depth analysis Nails it (20 minutes though)
Potatoes, potahtoes,
Tomatoes, tomahtoes
Let’s call the whole thing off…
This is the dumbest unforced error of at least the last hundred years. Possibly longer. Trump is only the 2d dumbest thing a country has done - he’s temporary. This isn’t.
I cannot believe they are this fucked up over in the Mother Country. jeeez.
I think if I were in a EU27 country, at this point my position towards the UK would be “leave, or don’t.”
This is all you need to know about the UK and the European Union… well worth 4 minutes of your life.
“The government intended to try a third time to get lawmakers to back the deal”
Why don’t they try a second time to get the public to back Brexit?
Yup. How they ever let a permanent change like that go through on a simple majority is crazy (let alone the ‘brilliant’ idea of Cameron to hold it in the first place).
If I were in a EU27 country, my position would be don’t leave, we want to kick you out.
I don’t get it either - why the fuck the referendum in the first place and why didn’t they start talking about what would happen with Ireland and Scotland if they did this - apparently they didn’t talk or think at all.
That’s what’s so amazing: it was a bad-faith referendum from the get-go. Leave was never supposed to be a serious position, it was just an effort to get the UKIP dead-enders to shut up.
They’ve got a gun to their head ready to blow their brains out over a vote they didn’t even intend to be legitimate. Which is a weird sort of commitment to small-d democracy, I guess.
