Anyone have a good read on PM May and what’s going on here? Is the idea to have Brexit fail so Britain can remain in the EU like most sensible people prefer? Or is she trying to Brexit in good faith and whip parliament?
…Britain would have to take part in European Parliament elections in late May.
But, but, but…I was told that Britain had no voice and no part in the European Parliament because Brussels was just dictating everything to them because the UK has no sovereignty and no say.
Was I lied to???
How long a delay would be needed for a new referendum, which is the only thing near to a sensible approach at this point?
What’s going on here is that May is the least competent prime minister since Chamberlain. Actually, probably since Stanley Baldwin, because apart from that Munich fiasco, Chamberlain wasn’t all that bad.
Brexit: MPs debate ruling out no-deal exit from EU – Politics live
Downing Street briefing just broken up. Ministers who voted against the whip tonight will be expected to resign, those who abstain will not.

We had a similar phenomenon here in the US when the “Freedom Caucus” was making John Boehner’s life miserable.
Not sure that’s fair.
Her predecessors inherited problems, too, it’s true – but in some ways the “Brexit” campaign was sui generis. May herself opposed it, and yet she volunteered to deal with the aftermath. Was it an act of courage? Opportunism? Hubris? You decide!
Constantly.
I have.
At the moment there aren’t enough votes in Parliament to authorize a new referendum.
Schroedinger would be proud. They’ve voted against a no-deal Brexit, but unless they vote for a delay tomorrow, the no-deal brexit will still happen. (Unless May or someone else claiming to exercise the powers of the PM delivers a delay request to the EU without parliamentary authorization.) Or is the delay motion they’re voting on tomorrow about the length of the delay, either a few weeks or some long indefinite period?
I think her shit sandwich is so colossal that it’s impossible to judge how competent she would be under other circumstances.
Delay delay delay long enough to vote out the far right?
Ironically, the argument against the original referendum is that it’s really Parliament’s job to decide Remain or Leave. Parliament has finally spoken…no Leave without a deal.
A good friend of mine had been planning to move to the UK in about a year. Unsurprisingly, those plans are now on hold.
Despite Parliament’s insistence that Brexit or stay is their decision, a second referendum on the matter would be an excellent idea at this point. After all of this fiasco over the last two years, the UK public is much, much better informed about the issue and all of the very real consequences of withdrawal from the EU. I imagine that a second plebiscite would result in an overwhelming vote to remain. Further, should Parliament vote to conduct such a vote, the EU would probably grant an extension to do so.
On the other hand, Parliament could just vote to remain all on its own.
The people I feel for are the ones from the continent who moved to Britain to work. I know several people in Italy whose adult children work in London. They really don’t know what’s going to happen.
Other than that, how was the play Ms. Lincoln?
Have another referendum on Brexit.
