His whole invasion of the Ukraine is likely for naught and sanctions are kicking his ass.

British intelligence along with the CIA tried to assassinate Sayyed Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah in Beirut, Lebanon with a car bomb in 1985. The bombing killed more than 80 people and injured 200, almost all civilians. Sayyed survived, unhurt.
The US targeted 41 for assassination by drone, we ended up killing 1,147, mostly civilians. Yes, Putin is an odious thug, he even stoops to killing journalists. That said, a former Russian spy who’s working for Western intelligence may have expected a hit ordered from Putin. Not saying it is right, but it goes with the territory.
Edward Snowden better hope Putin continues to find him useful. Maybe a short trial and a long prison sentence isn’t the worst that can happen.
