Tone deaf?
UberX is not a “ride sharing service.” There’s no sharing going on. It is a commercial transaction with payment exchanged for a service. It is a taxi service.
And needs to be regulated as such by law, immediately. Given all the negative press for weeks now, why in the world is anyone still using this service, anyway?
Do the drivers get this or does it go to the Uber douchebags at the top?
It’s part of the lore in NYC, hailing a cab. Uck Fubar.
the reason UberX is cheaper than a cab is because it doesn’t abide by the same regulations that companies with official taxi medallions have to. this means your UberX vehicle could well be a rolling death trap, just looking for a place to happen.
consider this: in your daily driving, you witness all manner of acts of driver idiocy. you are always just a few seconds away from an accident. these drivers would be the same ones providing UberX their services. do you really want to be stuck in a car, with the guy who constantly cuts in front of semi’s, speeds, misses exits, with a constant stream of profanity issuing out of his mouth? didn’t think so.
Because it is drastically cheaper, more efficient, accept credit card without a battle or chance of it being stolen, with cleaner cars and better quality drivers than taxi services in most cities.
People wonder why Uber executives think they can go around skirting most regs, laws, standards – I wonder if the fact that established news orgs and journalists continue to call them a “ride-sharing service” with a straight face/no-question gives Uber mgmt the ego boost to think they’ll be able to mold reality to their favor in the other aspects of their business venture (it does seem to be working).
