Somehow (let me strain to guess how) it’s become legal for an experiment consisting of 4000lb hunks of metal controlled by a computer program to travel at life-threatening speeds down our public roads. I wonder what could possibly go wrong. {eye roll}
Who is at fault here? Is it Uber? Is the the legislators that allowed this to take place (please be this one)? Is it State or Federal responsibility? Here’s an idea, how about NOT FUCKING EXPERIMENTING WITH PUBLIC SAFETY while you work out the bugs on your shiny new computer toy.
Almost 6,000 pedestrians were killed by cars last year. All those accidents involved cars driven by Homo Sapiens Sapiens. At the risk of sounding like I’m trivializing this woman’s death, (and that is by no means my intention), unless you’re planning on banning human drivers, too, suspending self-driving cars may be a bit of an over reaction. I mean, suspend them for the moment, but let’s look at what actually happened here before we go off on how dangerous the machines are.
Agreed,
Not any different then the DOT grounding a engineer , the FAA a pilot, or the NTSB a model of aircraft.
I’m the glass half full but looking both ways kind of guy on this subject and thinking a down stream product of this atonomos auto technology is going to save @darrtown grandchildren when said child runs out in front of a car faster then a human can react .
The space shuttle deaths per flight were unacceptable on face value but it was a painfull step taken so we could watch somthing like the Falcon heavy do its magic?
So many variables in the uber pedestrian event not sure it’s fair to judge anything but the loss of the Woman’s life.
I’ve been in four acraft accedents, two of my own doing, but I still get in one and fly almost every day. Choose to live or hide yourself away, the choice is yours, as is looking both ways before crossing.
