Discussion for article #225210

Hope they verified the identity of this “unnamed official.” The Howard Stern people could be at work again.

“United States is analyzing the trajectory of the missile to try to learn where the attack came from.”

More likely they know exactly where it came from and are lighting the phones on fire right now.

Turns out it was a high-ranking NSA official named Benjamin Dover. But he had permission from his supervisor, Djawanna Blowmee, to release this information.

That’d be my guess too.

If there’s one capability the US has in abundance, it’s the ability to detect missile launches from former Soviet territory. They know EXACTLY where that battery was.

Djawanna Blowmee Palin. You’ve just given them ideas for the next spawn

Ukrainian 'sovereign citizens" are responsible, no doubt. Many of the US variety hope to get them some missiles, because American patriots deserve “freedumb” too! Self-justified hatred is worldwide and speaks different languages. Regardez la condition humaine!

OK, let’s see how the Teabaggers make Putin a hero in this one.

It’s reminiscent of the incident in 2001 when the Ukrainians accidentally shot down a Siberia Airlines flight enroute from Tel Aviv to Novosibirsk. Both the Russians and the Israelis immediately screamed “terrorists”, but after a few days of flopping around, the US announced that the plane had been shot down by a Ukraianian missile fired during an exercise because they had tracked it. A week later the Ukrainians admitted it. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/ukraine/1359353/Ukraine-admits-it-shot-down-Russian-airliner.html

The US pays close attention to what goes on in that part of the world, always has, but particularly in the current situation. I’m sure the US has continuous ground-based and airborne surveillance with radar, ECM, and God only knows what else. That’s why the US has an Air Force Base at Incirlik in Turkey. I’m sure the US knows a great deal about the missile that shot the Malaysian airliner down, but I’m not sure how much of it they’re willing to release to the public.
