I can understand the congressman’s confusion, since he has never seen anyone other than a white male in his circle of friends.

"I understand the complications of so many languages and so many cultures and so many histories all rolled up in one," Clawson said.

The irony, of course, is that he was speaking to Americans.

And yet, Republicans like him are completely incapable of understanding “the complications of so many languages and so many cultures and so many histories all rolled up in one” when it comes to America.

As a good little ®, how’s the double-down going to play out? That he thinks they’re spies or something?

Either the Repubs are too foolish to use their staff, they hired incompetent staff to take advantage of our money - favors, nepotism - or their staff is setting them up and this isn’t the first time.

Please vote in November.

I knew he was a Republican before I read the story.

AS a freshman in office for less than 5 months, he should keep his head down and his mouth shut until he figures out what the hell he’s doing.

Since he’s a conservative, this could take years and years.

This was a a Congressional hearing — don’t they have notes regarding who they will be addressing as well as their title and positions?

Imagine the poor fellow’s shock when he realized the State Department had employees who weren’t Actual Real Americans. It’s like outsourcing has gone too far or something. Thanks Obama!

Jesus on a Triscuit! Note to Congressman: If they were officials of a foreign government, they wouldn’t be appearing, under oath, before your committee.

Is this the guy who won the special election a few months back? This is what happens when Dems don’t GOTV in non-Presidential elections.

Back in the golden age of politics (the seniority system), the Speaker and Committee chairman wouldn’t even let a first term Congressman speak. They were told to stay quiet for 2 or 3 terms until they learned the lay of the land.
