See, I knew there was an illegal voter.

If ever there was a case that begged for a pardon or commutation, this is it.

Mason’s attorney, Alison Grinter, plans to file an appeal, calling the case against Mason just another attempt to perpetuate a narrative of widespread voter fraud in the U.S.

Good, because that’s exactly what this case has sounded like from the beginning. This woman is being unjustly made an example of so that others can user her to further erode voting rights in this country. Maybe when Kobach and Sessions are in prison for 5 years (they deserve 50) for what they’ve done to disenfranchise people in this country I’ll be satisfied, but unlikely.

Crystal Mason is (1) female, (2) black, (3) probably didn’t vote for tRump: That’s 3 strikes in Texas even w/o the prior.

Contrast that with the slap on the wrist of the (white) voter who knowingly voted twice for the Manchurian Cantaloupe and you’ve got the right picture.

“In the amicus letter filed in late May, the ACLU and Texas Civil Rights Project attempted to argue that slamming Mason with a five-year sentence would “chill participation in elections.””

#WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU THINK THE WHOLE POINT OF THIS EXERCISE WAS?

She should contact trump and tell him he has nice hair and his skin is radiant. I hear he’s passing out pardons like Halloween candy these days.

There is not much left to chill. It’s probably safe to vote if you are white and evangelical, but otherwise it could harm your job prospects or get you thrown in prison. Moreover, once you stamp out actual voting, you get fake voting. East Germany regularly approached 100% turnout, and in Samara Region of Russia in the 2011 parliamentary elections voter turnout broke 140%!

Some how this case will be used for support for the decision that voter rolls should be purged.

Desperate for a word of praise from Trumpp, Sessions is trying to see if there is any way that DOJ can get the sentence increased to 20 years.

This is a slightly cleverer iteration of Jim Crow: a triple bank shot of factors which interact to make it harder for people of color to vote, without ever saying so flagrantly enough to draw immediate smack down.

Uhhh, point 6 on page 14 quotes the law directly: a person commits the offense of illegal voting if she votes in an election in which she knows she is not eligible to vote. TEX. ELEC. Code§ 64.012(a)(l).

She didn’t know she was not eligible to vote.

Mason’s crimes is being black while voting. This makes my heart bitter. I cannot imagine how she feels.

The same judge who issued the five-year sentence in the first place. Anyone surprised he doubled down?

Just add her to Trump’s pardon list.

Compare and contrast the sentence given to a woman whose vote ultimately was not counted and who apparently did not know she could not vote to the sentences given to those who defraud the government, cause untold numbers of people to lose money on tax scams, or otherwise are white. If the pardons Martha Stewart and not this woman , the evidence of bias is again irrefutable: remember Stewart was convicted essentially of insider trading. Let’s not forget that she had been a stock broker.
