Discussion: Two Shifts We Need For Iraq To Emerge From A Bloody Stalemate

Discussion for article #224762

Reconciliation with the Sunnis won’t happen with al-Maliki still in charge, and maybe not even if he leaves or is ousted. The damage he’s caused may be too extensive for “The enemy of my enemy is my friend” to prevail here.

Why doesn’t one side or the other hire Halliburton?

Mike, just let Iraq go. Move on with your life. Our “involvement” is over.

Why is America at fault or responsible at all? That is, beyond the damage caused by the Bozo Bush administration. This is a one way street that we get nothing back from but more death and crucial American dollars disappearing to.

After twelve wasted years there is no question of worth. We will never get even or get back what we’ve lost including our place in the world. We are scarred eternally and for what?

This author has his own love affair with the people and there is nothing wrong with that but that doesn’t mean that we should be guilted into putting their welfare before our own personal interests. At least until we are stable and secure at home. This seems like simple, common sense to me.

Where’s Europe, China, Russia, Iran Korea, etc.? The days of America going first and always leading and that being respected worldwide are over. That instinct must be nipped in the bud. We will be more respected if we butt out and just lead from a strong financial position, which we aren’t able to do, due to this global policing experiment that is a proven failure. Of course that goes hand in hand with corporate greed and their muscling in as we lose focus on what really matters.

Being ready to defend ourselves is one thing and a smart and necessary thing. Pre-emptively attacking and trying to fix or turn things into the American way is ridiculous. Do we even know what the American way is anymore or are we living by that ideal?
Being the big bully on the block isn’t impressive, it’s a recipe for financial ruin and it is being used against us.

We are falling further into the trap.
