Wow. Thatâs the third shooting in 24 hours.
TPMâŚunder âSectionsâ add âGun Violence Deathsâ along with a tally of those killed each day.
Itâs tragic that gun violence has become âho-humâ-ish.
The week is ending with a bang(s).
Two trained, alert, professional good guys with guns, versus one bad guy with a gun. The gun-lovers would tell us that this is the solution to gun violence. And while the bad guy got killed, the good guys are both in the hospital.
And this is as good as it gets for their proposed remedy. The cops canât be everywhere, the bad guys arenât normally going to wait to open fire until the cops get there, and most other good guys with guns arenât going to be as competent as the cops are.
And in this best-case-for-the-NRA scenario, two police officers are in the hospital. I can only hope and pray that theyâre OK. But this pretty much proves that good guys with guns arenât a very good answer to bad guys with guns.
A âtrespasserâ in the âgreeter areaâ of a store open for business.
I hope thereâs more to this story because, otherwise, thatâs a customer.
Third shooting related story picked up by national media in the last 24 hours. There have been at least a hundred not reported according to the national average of gun related shootings in the United States. We are a country of daily mass shootings. Most donât make national news because I guess itâs not a âbig dealâ anymore.
He could have been told to leave, which would make him a trespasser. Or he could have previously received notice from the store that he was not allowed to be there (which they often do to shoplifters).
The âDUHâ is a sure sign of a well thought-out response.
None of which is stated. Which is why I hope there is more to the story.
We can do âhe could have beenâŚâ all day and not be any closer to what the actual problem was.
I was just thinking that someone needs to put a widget on the front page in the manner of the debt clock.
And remember, if guns were outlawed, only cops would have guns.
Arizonaâs concealed-weapon law takes effect
by Kevin Kiley - Jul. 29, 2010 12:00 AM
The Arizona Republic
Today is the day gun-rights advocates have had in their sights for a long time. Starting today, Arizona residents at least 21 years old can carry a concealed weapon without a permit.
The change is part of a broad weapons law by state Sen. Russell Pearce passed by the state Legislature in April that eases restrictions on concealed carry and stiffens penalties for committing a crime while carrying a concealed weapon.
The law is one of many passed by the state Legislature this past session that go into effect today.
Arizona joins Alaska and Vermont as the only states to allow concealed weapons without a permit.
However, the impact of the law is likely to be different in Arizona than those states because Arizonaâs population is much larger and because the state has major metropolitan areas.
