Judge Garland is schedule to meet with some rational Senators as well,

White House officials say the nominee will also meet with Senators Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire and Joe Manchin III of West Virginia on Tuesday. On Wednesday, he is scheduled to sit down with Senators Richard J. Durbin of Illinois, Dianne Feinstein of California and Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island. And on Thursday, his schedule includes Senators Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, Sherrod Brown of Ohio and Chris Coons of Delaware.

I still say fuck 'em. They’re only doing this because they think they have to for re-election and because they know it will make absolutely no difference. It’s all for show. Fuck 'em.

Exactly - these senators’ willingness to meet with Garland is only based on this self-serving fact. It is sad that any attempt to do a small portion of their job is viewed as a generous, adulation-deserving move.

I’m eager to see what excuse the Republicans come up with for not voting for the nominee next year after the Democrat wins the election in November.

They will meet with him. That doesn’t put him anywhere near the Court. They will meet…and then its over.

Absolutely. And meetings especially by themselves, don’t add up to shit.

More meaningless gestures to appear reasonable. None of these phonies are on the senate judiciary committee where it might matter.

The quintessential concern troll piety.

“Our country is very split and we are in the midst of a highly contested presidential election,” the Arkansas senator said in the statement. “My colleagues and I are committed to giving the American people a voice in the direction the court will take for generations to come.”

It’s still a useful wedge to drive into the heart of the GOP majority.

What’s interesting about this is that it suggests Boozman thinks his state might be in play.

They’ll meet, they’ll shake hands, and Garland will tell them he just peed on his hand.

The last poll I saw Boozman led his Democratic opponent, Connor Eldridge, by something like 65 points. I don’t know if he’s worried, since Arkansas has turned blood red. He is a very courtly, polite, mild mannered fellow, and his spokeswoman told me he’s talking to Garland as a “professional courtesy.”
