"That may be something the committee needs to look into,” Murkowski offered.
Get him to address the situation under oath. Simple. Why didn’t she just say that?
Not no but hell no…Collins needs to pull her head out and stick with her stated principles…betraying her gender will get her nowhere…She has already been rolled believing gorsuch…and the tax cut rethug BS .
Murkowski not only has a gender women’s right issue but Alaskan Native Americans.
LIARS NOW ON THE COURT…
Shorter Collins and Murkowski:
Hey… he is Republican… end of story
Republicans are going to pay for Merritt Garland for a generation. The Turtle is great at tactics but lousy at strategy.
We can hope. We’ve been paying for thomas, alito and roberts for a generation already.
I’m not young and I have an excellent memory, and I do not remember the vehemence of a denial being considered to have much probative value. This seems to be a relatively new thing that grows out of the absolute goddamn nihilistic shameless corruption of this pestilential party. The only defense people can offer is that the accused person “strongly” denied the charge. Emphatic in his denial? Really, Susan? That’s seriously an argument you want to make? Because Mandy Rice-Davies had an answer for that 60 years ago that’s stood the test of time.
Why are the two Republican women supposed to be concerned about this? What about any Republican men? Are only women supposed to be concerned about rape and sexual violence? The silence is speaking volumes.
Here is GA we’re represented by those bastions of open thought, Perdue and Isakson.
sigh
Like my calling, faxing, tweeting etc. would ever do any good with those two. I used to petition my rep. Tom Price to do the right thing and all it ever did was put me on his mailing list.
Excellent points all around, but I want to highlight Murkowski for a minute:
She may already be a No vote because she owes her seat to Native Alaskans, who put her over the top as a write-in candidate after she lost the GOP primary. When Maizie Hirono pointed out that Bret Kavanaugh had, shall we say, retrograde views on Native Hawaiians that could conceivably be used against Native Alaskans, she specifically called out Murkowski. Murkowski could conceivably say no, then give cover to Collins. Yay for wise women like Hirono who know how the game is played in the Senate.
Collins, as I understand it, would like to be Maine’s governor in a couple of years. By voting to confirm Kavanaugh under these circumstances, she risks riling up one of her big bases of support. — the sensible women of Maine who made her life miserable during last summer’s ACA repeal fight. I’ll be curious to see if she’s REALLY wants to put that support on the line for Kavanaugh.
I confess that when I’m dealing with an obvious wingnut myself I don’t feel like my calls have much effect. But maybe it puts the fear of God and the voters in them and they’ll privately say to the party leadership hey, I’m getting a lot of pushback on this, maybe we can put that particularly noxious proposal on ice for a while. I’ll ask the local organizers about it. I’ve read that my own portrait in courage Toomey, a guy I deeply despise, is actually decent on a particular issue now and then.
Both of them give weasel words and Collins said she spoke to Kavanaugh and accepts his emphatic denial. Yet she has yet to speak to the women making the accusation who has taken a lie detector test, which neither Kavanaugh and his drunken prep school accomplice have done. But hey, let’s accept the word of a known perjurer.
Even Lindsey is making noises about a Hearing.
The thing that “concerns” me is that whenever Collins is “concerned”, it means that she is stalling for time until she votes the party line. She has no integrity or courage and I can only hope she pays the political price for it eventually. Right now, that monster Kavanaugh needs to be thrown out of town and she knows it but doesn’t have the guts to pull the trigger. I hope I am wrong.
Lucy. Football. Enough said…
“Well, I think that might be something they might have to consider, at least having that discussion,” Murkowski told CNN Sunday night, but suggested that the allegations “may” be something the committee should look at.
“Maybe. If you consider attempted statutory rape to be a crime. That subject is open to interpretation. I’ll let the men talk about it.”
“Collins told CNN Sunday she was ‘very surprised’”
The five stages of a Susan Collins reaction:
- Surprise
- Concern
- Deep Concern
- Reluctant willingness to go along with her “colleagues” just this once. But not a single time more for something like this. Seriously.
- Complete amnesia.
Well, never forget that Putin was all the more believable because he so vehemently denied that Russian interfered in 2016… ![]()
I believe the scenario will go like this: Kavanaugh will do an “aw shucks” performance that this MIGHT have happened but doesn’t remember because he was so mischievously drunk (crazy kids!). If it DID happen, he will issue the most heartfelt and deep apologies to Ms. Ford. Everyone will chuckle because, you know, it might have happened to any of us (crazy kids!). Kav invited to the Thomas’s for a grand celebration.
