Discussion: Two Cops Shot To Death In Brooklyn While Sitting In Their Patrol Car

Discussion for article #231382

well that sucks. I’m going to guess that the killer was someone who shouldn’t have been in possession of a gun to begin with, and probably also shouldn’t have been free to roam the streets, due to mental health issues. just guesses mind you.

I saw on television that he shot his girlfriend in Baltimore (she survived) before he headed to Brooklyn.

Brace yourselves for DeBlasighazi now.

It has already started. When CNN broke the news, they immediately connected it to the Mayor and Al Sharpton - before they had any information at all. It was so offensive and biased. Then they put two cops on who said these deaths should be blamed on protesters over the Eric Garner death. They went completely unchallenged (not even a “We should wait and see what we learn about the shooter’s motives…”)

I was trying to get into Manhattan around the time when this happened. “G” train service was suspended in both directions and I had no idea what had happened. Never did get there. Now I know.

Oh Lord. This is just bad all around.

I heard an Ex-policeman on CNN. He said he hoped Al Sharpton was happy!. The anchor had no response. What kind of reporting is that. Sad all around.

As little as I care to admit it, there is some pretty good circumstantial evidence that the killer is a Georgia native by way of Baltimore named Ismaaiyl Abdullah Brinsley. He apparently shot a family member in Baltimore very recently before heading to NYC. He left social media messages about his intentions and a photo of his attire at the time which matches the attire of the suspect who killed himself in the Marcy Ave subway station. He said in an Instagram post, “I’m Putting Wings On Pigs Today. They Take 1 Of Ours . . . . . . Let’s Take 2 of Theirs.” And, as a kicker, he speaks Arabic.

It’s going to be very ugly in NYC for a while. Expect the crazy rhetoric from PBA union chief Lynch to get even wilder. I would not be surprised if he starts advocating a police coup of City Hall.

If Lynch doesn’t start a coup of City Hall, he’ll probably call a strike. I can pretty much see that coming…

Did you read some of the comments on the Mediaite article? I had to stop as I was getting ill. Killing cops to make a point isn’t defensible on any level, but this will really be used to defend the need for a police state.

The ex New York cop CNN had on was repugnant. He literally said that the peaceful protesters in New York should be respected but they only represent .3 of the population so they need to be silenced. Review the segment if you don’t believe me. He also said there was no evidence of wrongdoing in the Eric Garner case.

I lived in NYC for 7 years. I had one interaction with the police but they treated me quite fairly. Mayor De Blasio has to go big on this tragedy before some sort of tipping point is reached. Successive NYC administrations allowed the police to essentially become an occupying force in some neighborhoods. I don’t think this incident is directly related to the protests but I am sure that much of the police force will see it as vindication and evidence that an even stronger police presence is necessary. The Mayor must present an escalating cycle of violence between the police and the community that could turn into a kind of Intifada.

New York police are not typical, there much more professional and more thoughtful than most.

People die every day. What happened to these officers is something that’s happening around the country every day. Getting shot by crazy people.

The suspect shot his girlfriend in some other state, then he traveled to NY where he apparently wanted to go out with a bang and doing so meant killing the officers.

The police presence is almost directly proportional to 911 calls of crime and also to crime itself. Several blacks I saw on the news in that neighborhood tonight said those guys were good guys who did a great job with community policing. Yes, there are bad cops, like any other profession. But the majority of them are doing a great job considering what they deal with here in NYC.

This is just terrible.

The notion that peaceful protesters who seek much-needed law enforcement reforms are in any way responsible for these murders is offensive. The sooner we come to agreement on two basic reforms, the better:

  1. All use of force by law enforcement is documented with video.

  2. All prosecutions of police misconduct are handled by independent prosecutors, with no ties to the police or police unions.
