Discussion: TV Station Fires Emmy-Winning Anchor Over Racial Online Remarks

Not intended as a factual statement.

Bell went on to say police should be stopping cars with loud, thumping hip-hop emanating from garish. overpriced stereo systems. They’re probably the guys that did it.

She might be right. Or the killers could be someone that was owed money over a deal for a used car. Or an ex-boyfriend (even an ex-girlfiend) of one of the victims. Or an uncle. Or even a couple of KKK members. Killers might have been black. Or white. Or black and white. Or Asian. Point is, nobody seems to know who did it. And for a news reporter to speculate this way is totally unprofessional, and what she did would justify firing even without any element of race.

If the police did that they’d arrest half the thousands of college kids in my town–nearly all of them white. There are some occasions where I almost wish they would, like homecoming etc.

Then again, she could be a candidate for President of this entire country. And she could have claimed the culprits were probably Mexicans, since many if not most of them are here illegally and are murderers and rapists and drug couriers. If only she were a Prez candidate, and not a news anchor, her Facebook post would have been greeted with approval and accolades by millions of citizens, and queries as to how they could help spread her message and get her elected.

People can denigrate her comments and motivations, but the sad part is that she’s probably at least mostly correct about the killers’ profile. I say this having read only the TPM article, not her full comments.

If and when she’s shown to be correct, I wonder how the public reaction will change?

Fine, High quality Stupidity like this is only available in America. It’s the only place where people shoot their mouths off more often than their guns. Either way, they make casualties of themselves.

“What matters is what’s going on in America, and it is the death of black people in this country…”

You twit! You don’t even know if it was a black person, no one knows as of yet who it was. Even if it’s likely that it was a black person YOU JUST DON’T KNOW so STFU until you do.

Seriously, with as many people as have gotten into trouble over dumb ass comments on social media, you’d think that people in positions like hers would have learned by now to temper their knee jerk posting. Like cops who haven’t realized that there is probably a camera on you.

I suspect this was a reference to the victims (dead) as opposed to the killers (fate unknown, but likely alive, just based on the odds).

FOX News just called. They want to interview her, if she is willing to bleach-blonde her hair.

So much to unpack here:

were insensitive and could be viewed as racist.

Not “viewed” my dear. Were.

On Wednesday, Bell defended herself, saying she didn’t get a “fair shake” from the station, and that the story was not about her, but about “African-Americans being killed by other African-Americans.”

When you’re in a hole…

others said the comments were not racist and applauded her honesty.

Suddenly Black Lives Matter. Pittsburgh for Trump!

She isn’t paid to hold seances or talk out of her ass. Whether her profile turns out to be at all correct or not absolves her of nothing.

No worries – she’ll be hired on the spot by News Corp and given a permanent position as an expert commentator on the criminal mind of the inner city black male.

When did this country or for that matter this forum become such a bunch of sanctimonious know-it-alls? This woman made a mistake. SHOW her the errors, explain WHY they were and allow her to go ON. We keep firing and destroying and denigrating and NOBODY EVER LEARNS a damn thing. STOP IT.

Excellent post, but I would add ignorance to her unprofessionalism and insensitivity. We don’t know this is black-on-black crime until we find out whether the perps (as well as the known victims) were black… And my son has a sibling with a different father and all of us are white. So her siblings-with-multiple-fathers-must-be-black theory is just plain wrong too.

  1. She should not have posted what she did.

  2. She’s probably right.

As far as I can tell, she’s speculating that this was a gang-related hit carried out by experienced gang members. She’s probably very familiar with stories just like this in that very area, so I’m willing to take what she says as an educated guess.

Get over it. She should be suspended, apologize, and get back to work.

Don’t you just love it. When the MSM want their on camera people to only tell the lies that want them to. Do that and you get rewarded. Stray and you get slap down. I have no idea if her statement is based on facts. But since when do facts matter… oh that’s right when it the corporate facts.

The issue is not whether her speculation turns out right or wrong, but whether a news anchor charged with gathering and reporting facts by ethical canons should be disseminating speculation as if there is some factual basis.
