Discussion: Tucker Carlson Criticizes Israeli Ambassador: 'I Think There Is A Problem'

Discussion for article #233035

This proves that, “even a broken watch is right twice a day.”

It proves that this little stunt of Boehner’s isn’t helping the GOP in the polls, and quite frankly is hurting them. So now they want to toss Bibi under the bus and pretend they had nothing to do with it.

It was/is an incredibly bad plan in the foreign policy arena, and the domestic arenas for both the GOP and Netanyahu. And now that’s becoming clear to all involved, everyone wants to get on the record saying “Wasn’t my idea!!”

It is the job of an Ambassador to guide his government carefully around the internal politics of his host nation. Dermer should have been screaming at Bibi that Boehner not clearing the speech with the Administration was a giant mistake. He didn’t and actually acceded to Boehner’s request that he not clear the visit with the White House. Dermer should be fired. I don’t care that Netanyahu was born and raised in America and has spent decades mucking around in American right wing politics. He is blinded by his personal hatred for Obama as well as more than a twinge of racism. An ambassador has to be a grown up. It was a stupid stunt from the beginning any anybody with a brain would have seen it wasn’t going to end well.

Democrats should to a member boycott the speech.

Send Dermer home. It was his idea, he should take the fall.

EDIT: PS - Tucker Carlson is a shameless hack. His opinions don’t matter, nor do they warrant repeating.

Ron Dermer has compromised Israel’s national security and foreign policy interests immeasurably through incompetence and divisiveness. He should be declared persona non grata. Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahoo was clearly misled by the equally incompetent and emotionally unstable John Boehner and Ron Dermer. He should use the deceit and the approaching election campaign as the basis for canceling the speech. He should post the speech on YouTube if he wants people to listen to what he has to say.

Israelis are America’s most ungrateful allies. You would think that $3 billion a year, constant running interference for them at the UN and security in the knowledge that the U.S. will not allow their country to be destroyed would result in a least a quantum of respect. But, they hate Obama as much as the GOP does, so there you go…

You don’t know Israelis. There’s too wide a swath of the population that believes Obama does not have their interests in mind and that crosses political lines.

Agreed that Carlson is a useless waste of skin. But to the extent that his opinion reflects that of his brain dead side of the Village, it is instructive of the current thinking amongst Rs.

My family is Israeli.

So the ambassador has made a mistake and is causing harm to our relations with Israel, but now since Netanyahu is gonna be here and all, the White House should just go ahead and make nice? Fuuuuch you.

Obvious solution: Dermer needs to resign, and give Netanyhu and Boehner an out.

It won’t happen, but still, it’s the obvious solution.

Bibi was born in Tel Aviv. It is Ron Dermer who was born in Miami Beach.

You probably know that American Jews are the most staunchly liberal voting bloc in this country after African-Americans. But even that bloc is becoming disenchanted by Bibi’s approach to governing as it is too far right for them and contrary to their beliefs as are Boner’s policies. My dad was Jewish, and it is how I developed the liberal values I have.

I believe the idea for the speech originated with Dermer possibly at the behest of Netanyahu.

You paint Netanyahu as a complete incompetent ala Chris Christie. Netanyahu does not deserve a pass on this. His hatred of our President and his inflated ego have contributed to his growing blunder. Israel would be smart to stop this train wreck in it’s tracks.

Our President has AMERICAN interests in mind, as he should. Israelis would be smart to realize the USA is not here to serve Israels interest over our own.

Don’t read too much into this. As Mr. Carlson said “there is a lot of blame to go around” and Tucker’s interests are in seeing none of it placed on Boehnor and his GOP’ers. This was another misread by the GOP and now again they find themselves in damage control. That’s always a blame game with them.

That’s probably all there is a here. At some point it doesn’t matter who you blame as along as thosereally at fault, the GOP’ers walk away clean. Initially it was blamed on antisemitism and Obama. Fail. Then it was all a “misunderstanding”. Fail. In Israel, that paragon of fidelity to the USA, the blame game began by accusing Boehnor ( the Speaker of the Congress ) of misinforming Netanyahu of the partisan nature of the scam. Fail. Here in the USA we have Tucker setting up Dermer for the same. Expect to hear a lot of crap until the speech is cancelled. And all of it constructed to get Netanyahu and the GOP off the hook. Anyone is fair game now.

At some point you’d think the GOP’ers would learn political stunts resulting in collateral damage to the USA ( Government shutdowns, debt ceiling shenanigans, ACA repeal ) just aren’t working well for them.
