The only reason Trump’s base is so afraid of immigration is that they fear the inevitable shift in demographics that ultimately dilutes their own power. (Claims of crime and related concerns are merely ways to mask their more obvious and selfish motives.) Their obsession with the wall is an extension of this fear, and it has become a symbol of their hold on power. Their inability to get the wall has become a symbol of that power slipping. Right now, they are more determined to force their will than they are in protecting the border.
That’s about right. I was thinking Pelosi should go on Fox and Idiots to make a public plea for certain policies, since they appear to be in charge.
Do you think Trump’s ego would let that happen if it’s inevitable that Democrats come up with a fix? I’d bet he would come to an agreement Thursday or Friday as to rob them of the opportunity. Just seems to be the kind of guy he is.
At the White House, Trump hosted a lunch Saturday with conservative lawmakers, including House Freedom Caucus chiefs Mark Meadows of North Carolina and Jim Jordan of Ohio, and several senators. Absent from the guest list were GOP leaders or any Democrats, who would be needed for a deal.

If there is a flaw in our democracy, it is that it takes too long to get rid of such a malign threat. It is painful to watch people get hurt, to see all of the mayhem and destruction and to feel so powerless to stop it, even though a majority of us understand the threat and want to have him removed.
Democrats are paddling furiously towards a safe shore, but Republicans at the helm are steering directly into the falls.

Trump will be happy to accept anything that he can sell as a personal win. As usual, this is a question of Public Relations, and reality won’t be allowed to get in the way. Trump’s ego is always his Achilles’ heel. We just have to figure out how to weaponize it.
Even if he caved he will call it a win, so the Dems might as well just stay the course.

The problem right now isnt Trump. It is the GOP. They are still afraid of the crazy Trump loons, so they won’t do their job. Congress needs to pass a budget and override Trump’s veto. They need to assert Congressional authority over this menace that is the so-called president.
