Discussion: Trump's Treasury Department Admits Tax Cuts Don't Pay For Themselves

The cat is out of the bag, but I feel certain this will be ignored by most other news outlets. Just one more reason I read TPM and am a proud Prime member. Thanks, Josh and your team.

… so not a problem …they will just have to cut social security and medicare … & non-business related aid for disasters - people should help themselves!

Ruining plans by blurting out the truth early is a privilege afforded only to the Trump family, Mnuchin.

Like The People’s Temple, Heaven’s Gate and The Branch Davidians, the Republican’t Party is a dangerous, quasi-religious Death Cult. They would rather physically die than admit that their beliefs are false…

I understand “Lockjaw” Mnuchin has designed an illustrated mailer explaining the effects of the tax bill to the other 99% of America.

This is a federal department submitting a one-page commentary when a detailed analysis was promised. An undergrad in a decent 300-level class would never pass that course with this kind of work.

Which, of course, is why Republican’ts are doing their damnedest to destroy post-secondary education in this country…

It is close to a 100% certainty that they asked if they could purchase an uncut sheet of bills, so that they could bring it home, set up cameras, and record videos of them rutting on it.

This calls for a Congressional investigation to root out the Obama/Clinton holdovers that sabotaged the detailed analysis.

Tax cuts for the rich don’t spur economic growth. What low top marginal tax rates spur is income inequality. Income inequality prompts economic stagnation because the additional money rich people get to keep doesn’t go back into the economy. They ship it to Switzerland or the Cayman Islands and use it to keep score among themselves. Economic growth is spurred by increased demand and giving rich people more money doesn’t do that. Increased demand comes from people in the middle having money to spend on things they normally couldn’t afford.

"(A)s well as from a combination of regulatory reform, infrastructure development, and welfare reform as proposed in the Administration’s Fiscal Year 2018 budget”

The reference to “welfare reform” is Trump speak for cutting medicare and social security. I have no idea what they mean by “infrastructure development.” They haven’t really pushed anything. “Regulatory reform” refers to making water and air dirty again. Welcome to the new gilded age.
