Discussion: Trump's Social Security Adviser Called For Privatization Of Medicare

Rule of thumb: Be extra afraid of any plans for Medicare and Social Security put forward by anyone who will never need Medicare and Social Security.

(Also, not that I need mention it: Donā€™t trust anybody who puts an ā€œRā€ after his name. Never!)

No surprise at all, considering that the ultimate goal is to privatize the White House.

they will receive a subsidy from the federal government that will allow them to purchase certified coverage plans. Those with the lowest incomes would receive more funds from vouchers and would be eligible for additional Medicaid coverage.

AKA Obamacare, but you donā€™t have to shop on the exchange to get your subsidy ā€“ though there still needs to be at least that part of the exchange infrastructure that determines the amount of subsidy you qualify for.

ā€œI believe we must move to a system like that provided to Members of Congress.ā€

Quick, some journalist point out that members of Congress get Medicare at age 65, just like everyone else.

Iā€™ll waitā€¦

Talk to any young person today, and they will tell you Social Security and Medicare wonā€™t be there for their generation,"

just because they ā€˜thinkā€™ it wonā€™t be available for them in the future isnā€™t evidence that it wonā€™t beā€¦ dumbasses like you spreading scare stories, like death panels in the ACA, also doesnā€™t make it so and trying to privatize it so wall street can steal their money or leading them to believe that a $5K or $10K voucher to purchase insurance at retirement age when they are going to need it the most is just bullshitā€¦

ā€œTalk to any young person today, and they will tell you Social Security and Medicare wonā€™t be there for their generationā€

I remember hearing that same dire prediction when I was a young person. Iā€™m now on Medicare and collecting Social Security. Itā€™s a comfort knowing I did not have to rely solely on my IRA (that hallowed ā€œPersonal Retirement Accounts to allow every American, not just the wealthy, to save and invest toward their retirementā€) that was devastated by the Bush recession.

Theyā€™re going to gut Medicare, privatize SS, and everything else they want to do. The people will melt down. The economy will melt down from that alone (not to mention the result of mass deportation if they follow through. People will have no safety net left and be out for blood and Congress will long for the days of double digit approval ratings.

Thatā€™s when the GOP picks one of Trumpā€™s 1,001 scandals, falls to their fainting couches, then impeach him to offer the pitchfork and torch crowd a head in order to save themselves.

And Leppert when on to add with those vouchers weā€™ll provide coupons to Trump properties for Early Bird dinners, a case of Trump water, and Trump steak (shipping and handling not incuded).

Messing with Social Security and Medicare will explode in GOP faces.

They still want to be reelected in 2018.

ā€¦

But for younger workers, we need to provide Medicare subsidies for the purchase of certified private plans, raise the retirement age, encourage greater retirement savings, and launch an initiative of Personal Retirement Accounts to allow every American, not just the wealthy, to save and invest toward their retirement.

Talk about self-fulfilling prophecies.

Personally, Iā€™ve sworn off confident predictions about the unthinkability of the inconceivably ridiculous.

I donā€™t know, Iā€™m pessimistic about ever getting Social Security or Medicare. Not because of the Republicans bull shit financial scare mongering, but because I donā€™t trust Boomers not to vote in Republicans that will throw us under the bus nor my peers to show up to vote to stop them.

They will be. The Rethugs now know that if their base is willing to send Rump to the WH, they will literally fall for anything.

Iā€™m a boomer and so is my wife and we BOTH vote Demā€¦ of course we live in California but stillā€¦ peer pressure can be a good thingā€¦ :innocent:

Republican scare talk is just that Social Security isnā€™t going brokeā€¦ Medicare costs have actually gone down because of cost controls imposed by the ACAā€¦

Repubs have been against Social Security and Medicare from day one because itā€™s viewed as a government handoutā€¦wanna make sure itā€™s MORE solvent? vote for legislators that vote against tax breaks for the 1%, vote to cut the Defense budget and to get of the corporate welfare queens like Cheeto Donnie, the Kochs and the Walmart familyā€¦

one more thingā€¦ reclaim ā€˜cut fraud and wasteā€™ from the Republicansā€¦ weā€™ve allowed them to co-opt the term so it means entitlements, cutting unemployment insurance, aid to dependent families and other government help for the needyā€¦

Bay Area, CA resident here, too. One of the major local TV newscasts is downplaying concerns over ā€œrumorsā€ of ending ObamaCare by pointing to the Covered California website to show that annual enrollment for 2017 is open! As clueless as a Trump voter.

That ship has sailed and it portends to be a rough cruise until the next port two years hence.
