Discussion: Trump's Refusal To Commit To Election Result Sparks Concession Nostalgia

I can’t wait for Alec Baldwin to parody this on SNL. Speaking of which, this made my day and makes me love the Baldwin impression even more. The fact that it bothers Trump greatly warms my heart.

Donald J. Trump :heavy_check_mark: @realDonaldTrump
Watched Saturday Night Live hit job on me.Time to retire the boring and unfunny show. Alec Baldwin portrayal stinks. Media rigging election!

Putting country before party, wishing the next president well, respecting the office. Hallmarks of a robust democracy.

The thing is: Trump is an asshole. When I meet an asshole at a party, my anger is not directed at the asshole, but the host.

The GOP invited Trump in. They, and they alone, are responsible for the denigration of America. They, and they alone, are responsible for the bile and anger. They and they alone, are destroying our ideals and standards.

The party that has always prided itself on its patriotism, on keeping the USA strong has fallen to a narcissistic 5 year old.

I hope they can recover. I do not think that any one party has all the answers, we need ideas, and discussion. So I hope that some version of the GOP can return, sincerely.

Sorry for the screed, but I am angry, sad, worried and frightened all at the same time, and writing helps.

turmpet created the next Alec Baldwin skit with

“No puppet. No puppet. You’re the puppet,’’

@Lew Plenty of people share your dismay at seeing the likely unraveling or destruction of a major political party in order to satisfy one man’s narcissism. The president spoke about it a few months ago and said it was crucial for a healthy democracy to have two functioning parties (and that’s not a cue to get into the viability of Greens and Libertarians).

He says he won and here’s the proof. Oh, he’s going to drain the swamp also.

Personally I would not mind another debate or two. Just to show the world what a threat to democracy and humanity Trump is and how Americans are thankfully sane enough to prevent him and his untutored mob from attaining power.

That Bad Hombre fellow. I think he played his last show in Times Square back in the 80’s.

Donald Trump could debate an empty chair and still lose.

Honestly, last night felt like Trump was doing a parody of SNL…every time he said “Wrong!” in the background of Clinton’s speaking it sounded like Baldwin doing the same thing. Someone is going to mix those interruptions up into a neat video, and SNL this week is going to be really entertaining.

It is very likely Trump disqualified himself last night. Yes, he should have already, but Clinton devastated him with his constant calls about rigged elections when she brought up the Emmys, and he fell for it and stayed with the idea that he won’t abide by the results, maybe. That just will not sit well with people…no one likes a sore loser, and Trump came across as one strongly, both in that comment and in how he acted after the debate where he wouldn’t even acknowledge Clinton and waited by his podium until she walked away. His core will remain, but he will never get more than that now.

I have to give Hillary credit. At the beginning, I wasn’t a huge fan of her. I was a Bernie supporter, but I was even lukewarm on him, as well. (it’s no secret my affection for Liz Warren. I wanted her or Cory Booker to run. To use a dumb Trumpism, I love those two…bigly) Anyway, Hillary has grown on me because of the way she and her campaign are working Trump like a speed bag. It just proves my theory that we, the liberal/progressives, are smarter people. None of Jeb’s, Little Marco’s or Cruz’s people could figure out how to play Trump, when it seemingly was so obvious. Or, maybe it wasn’t obvious? Like I said, we’re just smarter people. I know that sounds arrogant…but I don’t care.

Trump has almost as much respect for the Constitution as Jack The Ripper had for women.

Almost.

Hey! Empty Chair is a formidable opponent. Did you see the ass kicking it gave Clint Eastwood in 2012? :grinning:

Not to detract from your intelligence, but the debate certainly proved Hillary Clinton’s superior intelligence. She built that debate performance, we didn’t. Although, to be sure, I think that what made her attacks on him SO devastating was the fact that it was a woman beating up on him I definitely think that contributed to his poor performance.

Here is the comment that puts the evening’s proceedings in the correct light:

Refusal to accept the will of the voters is what a paranoid dictator does.
Pardon whilst I dig up the appropriate photoshop for the occasion.
Edit
OK…found it:

Hey. Those were all losers! Every one you just quoted and ran recordings of. Losers every one!
And that’s why Trump is a winner, a hugely one.

Trump is a classes individual, he has no respect for people, any of them, and no understanding of democracy, our country’s history or what it means to be a citizen or non-citizen living in this country. All that said, Trump has never once had the courage to stand up when the going got tough.

Come election night when he and his deplorables take a very due drubbing, he’ll just quit. He won’t concede, he won’t give a speech, he’ll go back to his faux-gold toilet, tweet something misogynist and idiotic and then he’ll recede into the background as soon as the media lets him go.

No offense taken. And you’re right. She and her people are doing a masterful job. They are putting on a clinic.

I am also interested to see if the GOP will install a “super-delegate” system to prevent the next Trump, or Trump, himself, from becoming the nominee again.

“Your success now is our country’s success.”
– George H. W. Bush to Bill Clinton, Jan 20, 1993

That sort of puts Rush Limbaugh’s comment “I hope he [President Obama] fails” in context, doesn’t it?

That lot was facing a daunting task from the start.

The only person who seem to irritate Trump the most was Cruz and folks saw what happened after that.
