Discussion: Trump's Lawyer Says He Paid Stormy Daniels Out Of His Own Pocket

The ONLY difference is that Trump was not President at the time of the “alleged” affair

Looks like a man looking for Presidential Pardon.

He at least admits that Trump had something going with that, ahem, star.

It’s a copy of Forbes magazine

I wonder what it’s like to live in a world where you can pay a sex worker $130K in hush money as a favor to a friend?

simplistically - Trump’s out of control party at the White House has blasted into an even higher orbit

  • law enforcement and investigators are deployed & making their way to the scene

Trump dispatches Michael Cohen to the Tidal Basin to strip naked, run around and moon the investigators … that will provide a diversion that will let Trump and his minions party on and enable the insanity to continue for just a bit more

Sweet jeebus, will anything ever get through the thick, dense skulls of Trump supporters who aren’t trolls, bots, or Russian assets?

The FEC is a toothless ferret. Even if there were violations all that would result are fines, penalties, etc. No one goes to jail or gets criminal charges (or suffers a conviction if they are charged, as opposed to pleading down to jaywalking) for violating FEC campaign finance statutes. I’ll wager most of the damn time the FEC shrugs their shoulders and passes on issuing a sanction unless the money was stuffed in an envelope found hidden in the underwear of a dead child prostitute.

You just don’t make a blackmail payment of $130,000 for no good reason.

As I suggest here, Mueller might want to ask Cohen a few questions about this himself. Was Cohen REALLY not reimbursed for his generosity to Daniels? And why not just pay her outright since he claims it was not a quid pro quo offer to buy her silence instead of doing it through a Cohen-created Delaware shell corporation?

I believe the politicians have studiously kept the membership of the FEC equally split between Dems and Rs as a way to make sure it can never reach a majority opinion.

And, when will a Larry Flint, or some other person or organization offer to cover her NDA related court costs plus a million bucks or so…

Translation: “It was MERCER MONEY.”

But but but MIchael, why did you pay all that money to the porn star?
Was it out of the pure goodness of your huge heart?
Did President Shit Stain have anything at all to do with it? No? OK. Gosh, you are a nice guy.

STOP … THINK … PONDER

“The dog that didn’t bark in the night”

now the whole world knows that Stormy Daniels was paid $130,000 - - presumably in return for agreeing to a non-disclosure agreement of some sort or another.

Stormy Daniels started to go rogue - began to move toward cashing in
… but then reversed direction … hummm … she could have parlayed her affair with Trump into millions - a book deal, movies, fame forever … What held her back? what caused the direction change - certainly not the weight of the $130,000 and some shadowy / sketchy "non-disclosure " document - - she could say - “OK - take me to court - enforce your gag on me not to talk about how I had messy sex with Donald Trump”

This did not stall because of the sanctity a shady $130,000 deal

… There is something else monumentally larger in play here - either she has gotten a pay-day with many extra zeros added to an off shore undisclosed account - or she has been paid a visit by some KGB-ish / BlackOPs - thugs explaining how one word would lead to her demise in seconds…

Yes, we’re still getting only part of the story, which is why it’s still a head-scratcher. The expressed motive for handing cash to a porn star is laughable, the fuzzy movement of the money and all of the FEC and IRS legal entanglements have yet to be unraveled.

Is Stormy paying taxes on the surprising gift of cash for doing nothing? How can this payment NOT be construed as a campaign contribution in some form? Trey Gowdy, we’ve got a live one for you!

When Jerry Springer was the Cincinnati mayor he was caught paying a call girl with a check. Obviously it was easy to trace the money because it was his. With Cohen and Trump and their history it’s quite suspect where the payment came from.

If you’re asking why he’s making this announcement now, I’m guessing it’s because of the complaint filed by Common Cause. Cohen has not only given a statement to the Times, he has also formally responded to that complaint.

Aside:

In her TPM article, Ms. MacNeal writes:

Cohen’s Tuesday statement is the first time he acknowledged making the payment, but he did not say why he made the payment to Clifford.

Not quite. Cohen did say this: “Just because something isn’t true doesn’t mean that it can’t cause you harm or damage. I will always protect Mr. Trump.”

In other words, he says he paid Clifford to stop making wild accusations.

If only I’d known it was so easy to pick his pocket …
