Discussion: Trump's HHS Unveils Medicaid Overhaul That Will Mean Fewer People Covered

Unbelievable, heartless and totally unsurprising. I am amazed at how much damage Trump and his gang have done to our country in a few short months. Let’s just tear up the safety net and go back to the good old days before that horrible Franklin Roosevelt person ruined our oligarchy. It’s beyond despicable.

Sound like a good description of the Republican tax plan: A hollow victory of numbers.

And make sure that the CDC can’t study addiction. See, we’ve no numbers on it, so it doesn’t happen!

Kind of like gun violence.

I wonder what Seema Verma’s position is in regards to covering pregnancies? Medicaid covers almost half of the births in the US, and this is one thing the “crisis pregnancy” centers do, they sign up pregnant women for Medicaid.

Why not legalize slavery again?

I’m so relieved that this absolute loon of a person has been brought on by Trump to explain to us that people are just numbers, while “reduc[ing] federal regulatory burdens” actually is more people-ish than people.

I think the phrase we used to use for stuff like this was "baffle them with bullshit. Look at that list of pretty words filling empty sentence.

“” Improve access to high-quality , person-centered services that produce positive health outcomes for individuals.""

Lots of words that sound good and say nothing. Baffling Bullshit.

One of the best improvements to Medicaid would be to insure all state and local government employees in the same pool as Medicaid. Essentially, they’d pay “premiums” to their own MA programs instead of to private insurers. States should then give a public option for anyone to buy into MA at the same rate as a government employee.

The infusion of cash from people healthy enough to work, would shore up the program. Or at least let the state save some :moneybag:money by spending the insurer’s profit on helping people instead.

At the same time, it would create a political constituency for making Medicaid excellent :+1:t2:, instead of crappy :poop: poor folks’ insurance. It’d be a long run political win bringing us closer to single payer, as well as a policy win helping people who need it.

It doesn’t even reach the level of word salad. It’s more like word purée.

Behind every single one of those hollow victories of numbers are stories of people who, for the first time in their lives, have been able to get treatment for chronic illnesses, cancer screenings, prenatal care, drug and alcohol addition treatment, and countless other services that have literally saved their lives. Seema Verma, you are a horrible, mean-spirited and petty woman who has no more place overseeing the programs at CMS than a neo-Nazi would have to be director of the Holocaust Museum.

“”“HHS’ new criteria for the Medicaid waivers is as follows:”"" Psychobabble. Read it. Psychobabble is a tough concept but read the bullets and you’ve got it.

Yes, coming from an administration subservient to a malignant narcissist who cares very much about numbers as long as they relate to him, this is especially rich.

Numbers that have to do with health care for vulnerable kids, the elderly, the (hard-)working poor? Could. Not. Care. Less. But hey, let me tell you about my Electoral College win, the size of my inaugural crowd, the stock market… I’m sooo awesome.

Republicans like Seeming Vermin are the heart of the GOP. The cold reptilian heart of a writhing traitorous mass of filth.

They should take away the medical coverage of everyone in HHS above the rank of manager, so they can experience the hollowness of the numbers… @$$holes!

Trump is all about saving money to give to the rich in the form of tax cuts. Screw the little people.
