Discussion: Trump's HHS Unveils Medicaid Overhaul That Will Mean Fewer People Covered

Several states have already submitted requests to CMS to impose work requirements on their Medicaid programs,

Perhaps if the Republicans traded their zeal to do anything to screw Americans out of healthcare into job creation, they would have more folks receiving employer-provided healthcare and fewer citizens who need Medicare! Nah, it’s more enjoyable to just screw the public.

“Hollow victory of numbers”. A new conservative catch phrase has been born. It will join “The soft bigotry of lowered expectations” , “apology tour” and “liberal plantation” in the Top 40.

Sure. 'Cause nothing makes it easier for the unemployed to find work than a couple of untreated medical conditions.

There’s nothing in that list of criteria that says anything about work requirements. In fact, everything in that list fits into the Obama criteria; it’s just more detailed. It’s how those criteria are being interpreted that seems to be the problem. And that’s just further proof that the Trump administration does whatever they want, regardless of laws or guidelines.

“Every American deserves the dignity and respect of high expectations and as public officials we should deliver programs that instill hope and say to each beneficiary that we believe in their potential,” Verma said.

“And so we will make sure you get the exact same health coverage as a billionaire – the minute you become one. You can do it!!”

Agreed. For the right-wingers, all this talk of “people” actually being able to “go to the doctor” is so hollow. Instead, what real Americans care about is "reducing federal regulatory burdens, increasing efficiency, and promoting transparency and accountability.” So refreshing to hear these kinds of meaningful, heartfelt considerations!

As Steve Martin said, it’s easy to become a millionaire. Step one: get a million dollars.

“…a hollow victory of numbers”

Much like the Russian victory over the Wehrmacht in the Battle of Stalingrad.

Political “nonsense speak” is now the lingua franca for the GOP and sadly, much of the MSM. This is why we have Trump. This is why the VA race is so close.

My head hurts. This man is insane and I’m getting a contact psychosis…

Run for office- the 2018 elections are just a year away! And if Trump and Louie Gohmert can get elected what’s to stop a qualified candidate?

Become a Precinct Committee Officer, sometimes it’s a Ward officer. You’ll meet with neighborhood Dems and get out the vote. Find good citizens willing to run for office.

Register people to vote. If you need to help people overcome the GOP-led Voter run-around help them do that.

Run for School Board. Make sure Civics is being properly taught. Think a majority of America knows how government works? Just 26% of eligible voters in America voted for Trump and half of eligible voters stayed home last November. Today’s 12-year olds will be voting for President in 8 years.

Run for Mayor, City Council, County Commissioner, Borough Assembly.

Get appointed to your Planning Commission. Know everything going on in your community.

Run for State Legislature or Congress. The next census is in 2020, just over 2 years from now, then we’ll redraw Congressional Districts. Get rid of GERRYMANDERING! Safe GOP seats gave us such intellectual giants as Louie Gohmert and Steve King. In most cases it’s the state Legislature that draws Congressional boundaries. Make it FAIR, OPEN and HONEST!

Overturn Citizens United. Money is NOT speech and Corporations are NOT people- at least not until Texas executes one.
Overturn any voter ID laws that are clearly an attempt to disenfranchise.

Because there’s nothing like having untreated illnesses to enable you to get a job.

Keep on keeping on @maricaibo!! This’ll gain traction right through Nov 2018!

This isn’t even in line with the prediction that waivers would be granted for everything that promised to cost less. Many of these waivers will end up costing way more for states and the federal government. But I guess, along with the tax bill, that the new message is that huge deficits are OK just as long as the right people still suffer.

Republicans embrace “big government”.

Big government embraces more regulation.

I don’t use the word ‘evil’ lightly, but Seema Verma is evil. She did evil things in Indiana (which ended up with a HIV epidemic from drug abuse) and is now doing evil things at HHS.

All of these new goals could be accomplished by not covering anyone.

Whereas in the past states had to prove that proposed changes would
“increase and strengthen” health coverage of their low-income
population, that requirement is gone, replaced with language that
welcomes proposals for work requirements, drug tests and other hurdles
that experts predict would reduce the Medicaid rolls by hundreds of thousands of people.

Yep, better and cheaper and it’ll cover more stuff… And everybody’s included!

Fine then. Mandatory drug testing for all elected officials and government employees. You smokey the dopey, you don’t get to pass laws killing others for doing it.
