Discussion: Trump's Choice For FDA Has Ties To Wall Street, Drug Makers

“Trump’s Choice For FDA Has Ties To Wall Street, Drug Makers.”

Of course he does. How can he work to completely screw up food and drug oversight if he doesn’t?

Our long national nightmare of safe and effective pharmaceuticals is over.

So which one is Gottlieb in the photo? The guy on the left foreground, the guy with the glasses, or the fuzzy individual in the background? It’s a small thing, but FFS captions exist for a reason.

I’m tempted to describe this as putting a crack whore in charge of a pharmacy.

But that would be unfair.

To crack whores.

Ties to Wall Street was probably the first thing on his resume and why he got the job.

So what area of medicine does GlaxoSmithKline not produce drugs for? And since he is on the their product investment board then wouldn’t that be a teeny tiny area of drug manufacturing that he wasn’t involved with?

A perfect example added to the metastasizing cancer of privateering. The radical conservative ideology: you can grub from the public commons to the tippy top of the shit pile! How apropos is that to have poorly tested insanely expensive snake oils. Stealing our democracy, our public safety and protections, and destroying everything you touch that belongs to and was created by us. Such big and important MEN.

I’m surprised the anti-Muslim comments didn’t get her promoted.

But he has never embraced libertarian-leaning proposals that would have the FDA abandon its effectiveness reviews of drugs and medical products. Under those plans, the FDA would simply approve products that appear safe, allowing the private sector to determine how well they actually treat diseases or medical conditions.

Of course he hasn’t. The last thing the pharmcos want is to compete against a blizzard of “FDA approved” useless potions that cost pennies to make and could be peddled as treatments for every condition under the sun.

There’s a tension between government barriers (patents, FDA safety and efficacy approvals) to protect the public and the exploitation of those barriers by private industry to enhance their profits. This nominee is pickled in pro-business ideology and profits from it. No surprise there. The swamp wins again.

Unlike many Trump nominees, though, he appears to be capable and knowledgeable enough to keep the agency functioning well.

It’s literally true in the Russia investigation and figuratively true everywhere else:

The bug is the feature.
