Discussion: Trump's Biggest Test In Sticking To The Script Comes Post-State Of The Union

Odds are that Trump sticks to the script for at least one night. All bets are off after that.

Odds are that he won’t comprehend the words coming out of his pie hole as he’s vomiting them out, let alone remembering any of it…

Anyone want to bet that he doesn’t make a reference to the Russia investigation?

You’d have a better chance of having gallon of lard sticking to a teflon wall.

Or he’ll revert to his cheat notes on his palms…

Can’t wait…

Mark it. If Trump manages a good speech there will be Wingnut pronouncements he’s so thoroughly aced his first big Presidential test the imperative of shutting down the Mueller investigation is self evident.

Just out of curiosity, how does central Asia media react to the whole Donnie / Russia issue? Or do they not even mention it?

People used to be incredulous at the idea of Russia interfering. They may still feel that way, but Trump’s approval is definitely way down.
That’s not the media, but the people I talk to.
There’s not much coverage of the story here. After all, Trump has virtually no ties to Kazakhstan, right?!

Trump has no “message discipline” because he has no understanding or interest in the subjects, policies or programs that people write words for him to read off the teleprompter in required speeches he makes. Even his infrequent ad libs during prepared speeches show his lack of knowledge and/or his underlying racism, 1 percenterism and me-ism.

He’ll stick to the Teleprompter, get good reviews for it and consider that political capital he can spend being an asshole on Twitter again.

Stephen Miller is helping to write the speech. It will include some signals to the white supremacists that POTUS has their backs. Someone who had a loved one murdered by an undocumented immigrant will probably be sitting with Melania and Ivanka. Trump will fail to mention that this person is not a Dreamer and it will serve to highlight highlight why family unification needs to end. I hope the Dems in Congress fill the gallery with the real faces of DACA who are hardworking Americans.

Trump has proven he can give a decent TelePrompTer speech. Commentators who are normally critical, in a frantic effort to look balanced, will immediately praise it for being “presidential” and treat it as a serious statement of policy.

Then, having delivered for the formal event, Trump will revert back to his norm of scattergun BS. All it will take is someone/something arousing his anger in the middle of the night or a deep insight from Fox and Friends.

Ainsley Earhardt has more say over foreign policy than Tillerson.

It is also important to remember the bar for Trump is so low. As long as he stays on script, reads without ad-libs no drooling or denture malfunction, it’s all good.

We need to talk about Stephen Miller, I’ve not seen this mentioned on TPM, it’s brilliant…

It won’t be just Wingnut pronouncements of how presidential he was, the MSM will be all over it, just like they always do. As the MSM helped elect him with the Hillary is just as bad, the MSM praises him when he doesn’t trip on his . . . .

For sure Chuck Todd will go full fluffer.

Can we get Stormy or at least a look alike to sit in a spot where he can see her well during the whole speech? That would be a fuckin riot and hopefully cause one!

The speech, which also featured an emotional standing ovation for the widow of a slain Navy SEAL, drew raves from Republicans and grudging respect from many Democrats while prompting a number of observers to wonder if Trump had found his footing and was ready to usher in a new, more responsible chapter of his presidency.
