Because nothing says thorough examination of the facts like a four-page summary written by a guy who got the AGās job by stating POTUS cannot commit Obstruction. A job he held previously when he ALSO cleared another Republican POTUS of potential crimes.

Wouldnāt it be nice if every time Trump and the Trumpettes started in on the time the investigation took and how corrupt the investigators were, somewhere in the background there would be a whispered word: Benghazi, or maybe e-mails, followed by hysterical laughter.

I know it looks funny at first glance, but itās absolutely disheartening from a democratic principles perspective. If they actually follow through and go after fellow senators, congressmen or reporters, no matter how absurd, and if it gets the slightest bit of traction it will give us a nasty nudge down a fascist slope greased with near unchecked power. I am ready to march and scream and do whatās necessary to survive this fucking nightmare that I am not sleeping much through.
Jonathan Lemire is one of the APās best, and I donāt mean that as faint praise. He was the guy who asked the really killer question at Helsinki, and here heās saying Trump isnāt out of the woods on any of this. He wasnāt exonerated by the investigation, and more and more he canāt control the way this is talked about. The percentage of the public thatās chronically inattentive and ignorant about politics amounts to a kind of swing vote, but the majority see now heās corrupt and incompetent. We saw that last November. We canāt say what will happen next, but scenarios in which he becomes more popular donāt seem likely. Itāll play out some other way than that. 
I will say that for an AP article there were quite a number of sharply worded, reality-attuned sentences in there. I was pleasantly surprised.

Burr doesnāt know what is in the report but he doesnāt think it contains anything that would threaten the presidency. Thatās a line of crap and he is chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee. The House is the only hope of getting the truth out on Trump, the Repukes in the Senate are going to sit on it as long as they are in control, presumably because they are also dirty.

The Repuglicans have no qualms about doing whatever they need to stay in power regardless of its legality. However, they have to starting thinking about the post-Trump world and where they are going to stand in it. I like your cracked dam analogy and think you will see some trickling loss of Repuke support, followed by a torrent. I hope.
But all that time spent on one person was justified. They had to investigate that Clinton, the woman who will not sit down and shut up, and for 30+ years she wonāt do or act like a respectable woman should. She got what she deserved, according to all Republicans at every age and from every part of the country.
