Discussion: Trump

Discussion for article #242111

Way to starve the other campaigns, buddy.

Thereā€™ll be four or five other campaigns gone in a week, if they are forced to buy into this.

Arguably violates the rules. His campaign shtick is that heā€™s self-funding and wonā€™t be controlled by big money interests etc. etc. Thatā€™s fine. But heā€™s not allowed to coordinate with Super PACs to tell them to help him create that appearance. They are supposed to operate entirely independently of one another.

Itā€™s good to be daā€™ King.

"I am self-funding my campaign and therefore I will not be controlled by the donors, special interests and lobbyists who have corrupted our politics and politicians for far too long," Trump said in a statement on Friday. "I have disavowed all Super PACā€™s, requested the return of all donations made to said PACā€™s, and I am calling on all Presidential candidates to do the same. The character of our country is only as strong as our leadersā€”the only special interest I am beholden to is the American people and together we will Make America Great Again!"

On one hand, mild applause in regards to how far he has advanced in the politics game (in fact, watching him go is a lot better than watching the current ā€˜big badā€™ in the current season of Supernatural).

On the other hand

they arenā€™t and thatā€™s where the real fun begins.

Meaningless. Give Trump a couple weeks, his PACs will still be throwing out ads, and he can say, ā€œWell golly, if I could make them stop I totally would. I mean, I TOLD them toā€¦ā€

In a panic, the other Republican candidates quickly all drop their Trump super PACs.

ā€œReal estate mogul Donald Trump on Friday announced that he asked super
PACs supporting his presidential bid to return all the funds theyā€™ve
raisedā€”and challenged all other presidential candidates to demand the
same.ā€

So this is the kind of brilliantly slick wheeler-dealering thatā€™s going to make us bored with winning so much? Iā€™m no billionaire graduate of Wharton but it seems more like one of those deals in the cartoons where your pants fall down and you point and yell ā€œHey, look over there!ā€ and then pull them back up. Am I missing something?

Iā€™m curious to see what the Donalds response will be as the day goes by with him in second place behind Ben Carson in Iowa. The state with Monsanto infecting their brains as he put it.

Given the inherent contradiction that defines Trumpley, it seems like he is getting increasingly bored. I donā€™t think the doctors ever got a handle on his ADD.

I have no doubt that the other campaigns would be happy to dump the pro-Trump superPACS as well.

And another thing.
Why is it wrong for the other candidates to make use of Super PACs, as allowed by law, but itā€™s okay for The Donald to fire scads of people using bankruptcy protection?

Wow there he goes hammering JEB! again.
