Oh, they all do it so it’s all the same. Hillary’s convention speeches laying out policy and the future of the country will be just like Donald’s fact free zone time share sales pitch.
The presumptive Republican presidential nominee specifically said that former primary rivals Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Ohio Gov. John Kasich would not be able to speak if they refuse to back Trump as the nominee.
Well that settles that. After all, it’s not like Ted Cruz wants to be a martyr for a cause or wants to position himself as the anti-Trump for 2020. Good people-reading, Dealmaster!
He’s gonna have enough trouble getting the people who DID endorse him to give speeches! To say nothing of the ‘support the nominee’ crowd.
Cities lining up to bid to held the 2020 Republican Convention –
- Cities with newly appointed emergency managers
- “They asked us.”
- Convention center is cursed.
- No longer wish to be known only as worst city in America.
- Something good can come out of being tornado-prone.
- Selecting candidates falls under definition of karaoke.
- Still only second with highest percentage of residents who said they were angry within the past 24 hours.
- Visiting Republicans would fit right in.
- No adults with college degrees.
- Also located in worst state in America.
You’re only going because the pound is so weak.
I support this completely, and I think it should hold true on our side as well. The convention is an opportunity to seal a nominee’s position at the head of the party, and giving speaking roles to people who don’t think enough of the nominee to endorse him or her goes against that goal.
Does “Support the nominee” count?
I wish they’d taken the vote about two months ago, before I paid for the bulk of my lodgings and other travel arrangements. At least the remaining meals and incidentals, plus the rental car, will be a relative bargain. Alas, what I lost in the market Friday would have paid for this entire trip. ![]()
So, we can expect another appearance from Clint Eastwood?
So, “You’re either with us or against us” 2.0
Donald is a dumbed down version of W.
Well, there is a difference between speeches by people that simply don’t agree that he can do the job and people that are unable to construct a coherent phrase, much less whole sentences (bet they can read a teleprompter though!)
Is it wrong that I’m smiling?
How in the hell did such a wimp win the votes of a majority of republican’s that claim to be so tough. Oh yea, they are the same ones that don’t want to level the playing field…never mind.
The New York Times also reported that the Republican National Committee is working to prevent a delegate revolt at the convention:
Man I hope he is on the ballot just because I think it’s going to be such a landslide loss to Republicans!
The 2016 GOP Convention is shaping up to by a 24x7 Infomercial for “Trump” brands and properties.
Maybe that was the plan all along as it sure doesn’t seem to be about POLITICS as much as grifting and personal vendettas.
Pass the popcorn.
Agreed…its a fairly normal requirement for any candidate at the convention where he is receiving the nomination.
But the part to pay attention to is just how much time since he wrapped up the nomination, Trump has spent fighting and attacking…OTHER GOPers. Kirk has ads up in IL right now attacking Trump in an attempt to distance himself from his front runner.
We have all read analysis that show that Trump cannot win if he doesn’t grow the tent from the levels that Romney had with various demographic groups. But he absolutely cannot even begin to do that hard work if he can’t consolidate the actual GOP base. This tears at him in terms of votes, in terms of fund raising and in terms of building a ground game. And its entirely a self inflicted problem.
I mean, go back and read some of the articles on the state of the RNC-Trump relationship…on the one hand they are demanding an unprecedented amount of the campaigning be done by the RNC, and on the other they are blasting the RNC for not doing things the way the Trump campaign wants them…literally telling them to go pound sand.
If you look closely, right above the furthermost edge of this massive, bloody brawl, you can make out what’s left of the podium. Thank God it has been been empty mic night here in Cleveland and no one was on stage…
I have to agree that this “no endorsement, no speech” thing is pretty common, But.
With Trump it’s a little different, because he’s such a divisive figure and the people who have endorsed him (as opposed to the “I will support the nominee” types) are mostly way over the top. And although that’s going to make great coronation material, it’s going to make a national TV spectacle that’s not ideal for the party.
I wonder if Trump will relax his rules so that people who have gone the “support the nominee” route will be given speech slots. Or whether there will be another wave of establishment republicans suddenly discovering previous engagements that keep them away from Cleveland.
“James Carville, apoplectic over Casey’s claims.”
Isn’t James Carville apoplectic about ordering lunch?
The man does not have a chill button.
This convention will be a spectacle. It will be the next next release of the Jackass movie series.
From HuffPo…[
["Republicans working to deny Donald Trump their party’s nomination at next month’s convention may not have the votes lined up to pull that off, but they’ve certainly gotten Trump’s attention.
On an anti-Trump conference call Sunday evening, Georgia delegate Bobby Booth said the No. 2 person in the Trump campaign had called him, asking whether he’d been contacted by anti-Trump organizers. ‘I told him I WAS SEEKING THEM OUT,’ Booth said.
The conference call comes as the anti-Trump ‘Free the Delegates’ movement gets more media attention, along with radio ads from a friendly super PAC, cable TV ads from a secret donor political group and more establishment Republican support.
Joining the call Sunday was former New Hampshire Sen. Gordon Humphrey ®, who supported Ohio Gov. John Kasich in the GOP primaries. ‘Donald Trump is just about the worst candidate you can think of,’ he said.
Just a week ago, both Trump and RNC chief strategist Sean Spicer were calling the anti-Trump group a media invention. Trump called it a ‘hoax’ that had been ‘made up by the press,’ and also said there was ‘no mechanism’ by which his GOP rivals could challenge his candidacy."]
People keep talking about comparing Trump to people like Perot or Wallace or other candidates who, essentially, ran as Third Party people.
Trump, by virtue of getting the GOP Nomination, would automatically assume a legitimacy which the MSM is “professionally” bound to “make equivalent” to whatever Democrats do.
-
If Trump is an asshole and he is disliked as a result, the MSM is “professionally bound” to highlight that Hillary Clinton has “high negatives”.
-
If Trump has policies which have been judged by economists as being dangerous for the U.S., the MSM is “professionally bound” to trot out reports that would praise Trump
-
If Trump has press conferences which would disgrace a sixth grader, the MSM is “professionally bound” to focus on the fact that Hill doesn’t like press conferences
-
If Trump is a bigot whose trademark is incendiary rhetoric, the MSM is “professionally bound” to focus on the fact that the Bible that Hill carries in her purse is not taken out and shown to the public enough.
I think he should seriously consider the same for those, who did endorse him ( I am sure both Carson and Manafort can screw it up).
