Discussion: Trump White House Threatens To Go All In On Voter ID Laws

Cool

That means that they have to produce conclusive evidence that action occurred.

Iā€™m going to venture far out on the proverbial limb and suggest that the GOP idea of what constitutes ā€œa very successful voter ID programā€ is substantially different from mine.

So many shiny things coming at us. Forget about the threats and the fascist bucket list

Where are the jobs you promised Mr. President, where are the jobs? Turn it right back on him and control the message - before it disappears.

A national voter registration system, by default, will require Congressional approval. It will not be created in the dark by EO.

Thatā€™s right. FUCK THE CONSTITUTION and itā€™s granting of control of voting EXCLUSIVELY to the States.

We have to MAKE SURE TRUMP IS RE-ELECTED NOW (6 days into his first term) by making sure ONLY WHITE MALES can vote for him. Every other vote is of course ILLEGAL (how else to achieve Putin-level reelection at 90% of the vote?) As Stalin said: ā€œIt is not important who votes. It is only important who COUNTS the votes.ā€

What does that say about how they ā€œwonā€ the election? They do NOT want widespread broad investigations into the 2016 election as it will uncover immense voter suppression in Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania (oddly enough, the states the he ā€œwonā€ by a total of 77K votes spread across all 5 states.)

A national ID may not go down well with libertarian-leaning conservatives. Louisiana only just recently passed the law that allows the proper security information on driverā€™s licenses that conforms with the federal Real ID act. With the former licenses, citizens needed another form of identification to travel on a plane in the US. Louisiana citizens can still opt out of getting the new licenses.

Iā€™d be OK with that if I thought there was any way the national voter ID wouldnā€™t come with a fee and/or be made to be easily accessible to rural and typical Republican voters and more onerous for urban voters. So, concealed carry licenses would count but not student IDs, library cards, etc.

Iā€™m 100% on board with voter ID laws.

But the only way to do that is to have a National ID card (like every other advanced nation).

Why are the same people in America who insist on voter ID laws opposed to a National IDā€¦

I appreciate Spicer and the White House destroying their credibility with the press before raising the voter ID issue. It will be so much easier now to get the press to push back on the facts of voter fraud and the real impact of voter ID laws.

Welcome to the police state.

I believe that this was the game plan for Trump and Bannon, the out-of-shape Leninist, all along. This gives the Breitbartian (exclusively) White House the cover they need to impose stringent voting laws in place to keep primarily African- Americans and Latino- Americans from exercising their right to vote. This is what happens when a venal, egotistical and shallow person is elected. Particularly, where as here, it appears, Bannon is pulling the strings.

Oh, and Tiffany Trump is registered to vote in two states. Also, too.

I donā€™t mind voter ID laws if they are reasonable. Just create a national law that dumps all the crap states like Kansas and North Carolina want to include. Make it easy for somebody to obtain a National ID. Use the law as a GOTV tool. Start 2018 now.

Pretty sure you could finish that sentence with just about anything regarding governance and the answer would be no.

This Congress will just pass a law declaring all Executive Orders to have the force of Law.

That way Trump can rule by fiat as he wishes and they can concentrate on whoring for campaign donations and lobbying jobs for when they leave congress. WIN WIN.

Once he gets his ā€œRoy Mooreā€ type SCOTUS in place it will be 5-4 on EVERYTHING he does, constitutional or not.

Weep for America. It was fun while it lasted.
