Discussion: Trump Weighs In On Whether Clinton Is Qualified For The Presidency

Bernie did this. Hillary Clinton is qualified. Once she gets nominated, President Obama will be out on the trail campaigning with her and she will become our President.

Sir, I served with baboons. I knew baboons. Baboons were friends of mine. Sir, Donald Trump is no baboon. (H/T: Lloyd Bentsen)

Well that is what he said AFTER he said, : “When you voted for the war in Iraq, the most disastrous foreign policy blunder in the history of America, you might want to question your qualifications. When you voted for trade agreements that cost millions of Americans decent paying jobs, and the American people might want to wonder about your qualifications. When you’re spending an enormous amount of time raising money for your super PAC from some of the wealthiest people in this country, and from some of the most outrageous special interests … Are you qualified to be president of the United States when you’re raising millions of dollars from Wall Street whose greed and recklessness helped destroy our economy?”

Bernie - go away. We don’t need a grumpy ol’ man who is has a single issue message hijacking the Democratic Party.

I was thinking the same thing…

Except he didn’t “tell it like it is”, he had a hissy-fit because he read an incorrect WaPo headline and got his wee feelings hurt!

Agreed!

I quite agree with you…It is now, however, up to us to counteract that.

For people like my Dad, the BEST thing a person could say to motivate him was a combination of the following (one, some or all)

  • You are “unqualified”

  • You can’t (don’t have what it takes to) do ________________

  • “People like you” can’t do _____________________

We will see how this plays out. It SHOULD be a motivator…

What Bernie said was thoughtless, and I’m pretty certain he regrets it. That being said, I don’t think ultimately it’s a big deal. It’s politics - hard elbows get thrown and you have to deal with it.

Remember, Republicans also said Obama was unqualified to be President - back in 2008 - based on his less than one full term in the Senate. If a former first lady actively involved in the issues, ex-Senator and Secretary of State isn’t qualified to be President, the I dare say no one is.

Now, if someone wants to question some of her policy positions, that’s a different issue. I think that would be a legitimate area of inquiry, but that still doesn’t out of hand disqualify her to be President. You’d have to be a Hillary-hater to think that.

It’s a whole different ballgame on the national scene. Bernie’s not ready for it. Trump isn’t ready to be taken seriously outside his angry white base.

One could argue that about all the Tea Bagger candidates who arrived in 2010, on a “wave of resentment” and look at that result.

“Hey, she doesn’t got it goin’ on up top, knowhumsayin’? No, not that far up top, right there in the middle. Yeah, those are what it takes to be a qualified woman, y’hear me? Heh heh heh.”

There is, among “los jefes del partido republicano” a feeling that there is a 93% probability that there will be an open convention. Ted Cruz (who was trained in POLITICS AND LAW, not making deals in the casino business) has done some (typically, based on his training) shrewd things in maximizing his delegate strength. This will come into play once Trump fails on the first ballot.

And even if Trump comes in with enough to make it on the first ballot, there will be a tsunami of enraged Republicans who despise Trump.

Even Dale Carnegie would not be able to pivot in a way to overcome negatives as high as 70% generally and 50% among Republicans. And this is TRUMP we are talking about, whose personality caused the unpopularity in the first place. One of the reasons that I always liked teaching undergraduates was that 20-22 year olds were a tad more flexible . Trump is a boor set in stone.

The idea that this payaso puro would have enough nerve to speak about someone else’s “qualifications” to be President is tantamount to George Wallace weighing in on diversity training.
