When you have an severely narcissistic parent or spouse, you spend a lot of time paying attention to the least of things they say or do to anticipate what is coming down the line and keep reality in its place. That is pure self preservation. It is an incredibly stressful environment. As a country, we are in that mode and experiencing that stress.

It’s obvious (to me) that Trump intends to win his case against Mueller in the court of public opinion, not in court court, since he says that while lying to the media (about the Trump Jr. meeting) is not illegal, he concedes that lying under oath is illegal. But wouldn’t that strategy require not lying to the public, if that is his jury? Even if the jury is composed only of Trump supporters, didn’t Jay Sekulow lie to the jury when he said that Trump made no contribution to the letter describing Jr.'s meeting with the Russians in Trump Tower as having only to do with Russian adoptions? Or let’s say that the jury is okay with this lie, but what if they are not okay with the lie about the promised wall, or the lie about the promised renaissance in coal jobs, or the lie about the promised massive improvement in healthcare, or the lie about cleaning up the mess in Chicago, etc?
