Sorry. My feet hurt.
It can’t be said often enough — instead of sending the National Guard to the U.S. - Mexico border as a campaign stunt, Trump needs to SEND THE NATIONAL GUARD TO PUERTO RICO, which still has not recovered from hurricane Maria.
Trump ordered the deployment because “we are at a crisis point” with illegal immigration, Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen of the Department of Homeland Security said.
“We’d like to stop it before the numbers get even bigger,” she said.
This is a lie. Not a different interpretation of the facts but a lie.
Remember, President Trump, what you said last year?
“People want the border wall … They want to see the wall, they want to see security. Now, it just came out that they’re 73 percent down. … That’s a tremendous achievement. … Look at this, in 100 days, that down to the lowest in 17 years and it’s going lower,” Trump said in the April 21 interview, which we fact-checked.
How did your administration fuck things up so badly in one year that now it’s a crisis?
It’s called imagination and the will to prove to himself he is the ALMIGHTY something.
That’s enough to create an impervious human wall of 1-2 soldiers per mile, so problem solved!
The only crisis is that Trump is afraid of losing support of the rubes if he doesn’t show he’s doing something about a problem that doesn’t exist and distract them from problems he’s actually causing.
In the Trump era, more than ever before, facts are fungible. He’ll say whatever he has to say, to sell whatever he has to sell, to whoever he’s talking to at the time. He’s like a Dumb Dickens:
“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way…”
Hell, as long as this is a pointless stunt that’ll prove and accomplish nothing but will get the attention of the media and the most credulous, suggestible quintile of the population, just send David Blaine.
Cheaper option than building The Wall .
How much will it cost to deploy these troops for that long? How much will their businesses and jobs suffer? Will this impact the economy? How?
No one knew it could be so complicated.
Does anyone realize how little impact 2-4,000 National Guardsmen will have on the border? That’s about one for every mile. A drop in the veritable bucket.
All they need to do is each maintain perfect situational awareness of all activity for a half-mile to either side. Oh, and they have to do it 24/7 without ever sleeping, because there are only enough for one shift.
Bone spurs?
Trump ordered the deployment because “we are at a crisis point” with illegal immigration, Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen of the Department of Homeland Security said.
“We’d like to stop it before the numbers get even bigger,” she said.
According to the New York Times, “The number of people apprehended at the border plummeted from more than 1.6 million in 2000 to 310,000 last year, the lowest level since 1971.”
So much for a “crisis point.”
