While it may be cathartic to protest and yell at Trump people, itās not going to win us any votes. Trump has lost a lot of his issues that used to work for him (see health care, taxes), but there are a few things that can still fire up his base (and more moderate Republicans / Independents). One is immigration, thatās why he continues to push on it even after taking a big hit on family separation. Trumps base loves just about nothing more than ātriggering the snowflakesā, but when we take the bait, it also turns moderates and independents against us.
Remember, people will be voting for solutions this November. Trump has created a lot of problems that need solving, and an environment of chaos that threatens to cause even more problems. Now is not the time to throw up our hands and give in to the chaos as well. Be the responsible party, be the party of adults, be the party that can provide solutions. Doubling down on yelling at Trumpers in public sends the message that we donāt really have any idea what to do for the American people.
Anyone who thinks this will increase Democratic turnout has it all turned around. Dem turnout is pretty locked in. The big questions are will moderates and independents turn out for us, and will Trumpās base find a reason to turn out. This kind of āletās not be civilā behavior is going backfire big time.
So, now all of us liberals and progressives are each and everyone of us personally responsible for not triggering the Trumpazoans in the vain hope they may eventually come round?
