For some evangelicals, their āhopesā for Israel are even more dire. They believe that, before the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, an all out war between Israel and the Muslim world will take place (Armageddon). After the few survivors convert to Christianity then Christ will return.
They donāt support Netanyahu because they love Israel, they support him because they feel heās most likely to lead Israel to its own destruction.

Some evangelicals see Trump as a fulfillment of Biblical prophecy who will herald in the End Times, just as some feel that the establishment of the State of Israel was a harbinger of the coming End Times.
But do they see Trump as the red heifer? His girth evokes the image of a fat cow, but his hair ā¦? I know itās probably not natural, but it does have a orange hue.

I saw part of this on our local news. He was utterly unhinged. If he had been on our courthouse lawn with the other local drunks, druggies, and ranters behaving like he did in front of the Republican Jewish Coalition, he would have been carted off to the Alcohol Recovery Center.

There will always be a small minority who find common cause with these authoritarians, but for the most part Jewish people in the US are staunchly liberal.
That is why they support the separation of church and state, an independent press, and the institutions of a civil society. Their tragic history makes them alert to the dangerous siren songs of chauvinism, tribalism and parochialism.
American Jews are as pro-American as any of their fellow citizens, if not more so.

I expect that all or nearly all the remaining territory seized by Israel in the 1967 war will be formally recognized as part of Israel by the time the Trump presidency is finished. (They might restrain themselves on Gaza, then resettle and cram all remaining Palestinians there.) It wouldnāt even surprise me if Trump soon calls Pres. Carter a wuss and encourages the Israelis to take back the Sinai Peninsula by the time this is done, if it would keep Money Bags Adelson pumping hundreds of millions into Trumpublican campaigns, especially his own.
Yes, that has been clear. My comment was digging at the underlying stupidity of the dealmaking from this self-anointed deal artist. Regardless of what Jewish Democrats think, Trumpp is claiming to have done something for them and expects now to collect the price heās named after the fact and without any agreement or understanding in place.
There is incredible tension in Israel between the strong desire to remain a democracy and the strong(er) desire to remain a Jewish state. It is possible for Israel to continue as both, but Netanyahu gets a lot of his power from people in Israel who are willing to give up the Democracy if they are convinced it will allow them to expand the Jewish state and deal with any perceived internal compromises of its Jewish nature.
