Republicans have a legitimate due-process argument here that theyâre really not even trying to make (Facebook meme about Hillaryâs e-mail investigation I saw last night notwithstanding).
It would be great if he could get the NRA to agree to that. Still wonât change the fact that I hate BOTH of them.
This will be interesting. I have no clue how Trump will react to pressure from the NRA.
He is such a loose cannon that he could tell them he doesnât need their support or he could do like he does so many things, state support for all positions and deny it when pressed.
The depressing thing is my moderate RW boss was talking about how dumb the âgovernmentâ was for allowing people on the no-fly list to purchase weapons. You know, Obamaâs fault. He probably thinks itâs because of PC culture.
I had to pull up the news items to show that the Republicans blocked it. Even then he wasnât 100% convinced.
I notice no one is suggesting members of white supremacist organizations that openly call for violence against Jews and racial minorities be precluded from buying guns.
Openly sympathize and pledge allegiance to ISIS> canât buy a gun.
Openly sympathize and pledge allegiance to the KKK>what calibre handgun would you like, sir?
This fucking asshole is good at PR, Iâll give him that. Man, I hate this idiot.
The NRA will never agree to any weapons limitations. Ground gained is ground to be kept and protected. Retreat is unthinkable.
For the record, most of the time, people tend to meet with Congress about changing laws, not the lobbying group, but⌠okay
I would like to see a media-wide style guide rule that requires any mention of âthe NRAâ to be followed by âa political lobbying group for gun manufacturersâ.
You deal with whoever has the power.
This is a smart move. Being seen as the one who tried to get NRA to change its position (and also show how, lol, even the GOP knows that NRA has all the power when it comes to gun reform).
Keep talking in riddles â that aways helps!
Itâs probably best for anyone who wants Trump to say what they want him to say to tell him in person. It doubles the chances he actually says it to 0.0025%.
So rootinâ-tootinâ terrorist-fightinâ American Patriot Savior Donald Trump has to get on his knees and beg the NRA for permission to ban terrorists from having guns. What a fucking wuss! I canât wait until this is shoved right up his orange ass.
Donald Trump has again shown he has the testicular fortitude of an amoeba.
More like: âlook guys, if you appear to capitulate to my request, Iâll get more votes. When I win, weâll go back to business as usual â what can they do?â
He goes to the NRA, says I need a game changer or at least a conversation changer, let me say youâd consider it after the election because Iâm an awesome deal-maker with nothing in my heart but concern for public safety. NRA guys make a few calls to their money people saying the fix is in, they tell their members theyâd much rather have good-faith discussions with the awesome Trump because do you want Hillary NOOOOOOO so itâs all good. This is not the dumbest thing heâs done today. Bastard.
Yes, letâs see the Republicans defend a terroristâs right to buy an assault rifle. Yes, I REALLY, REALLY want to see that argument before the American public.
@sarenarterius is speaking of state action that treats people on the âno fly listâ differently from those not on the list without a hearing. I have a friend whose name âAndrew Brownâ was on this list and blocked from flying once because his name matched another âAndrew Brownâ who was on the list. It took my friend more than a year to get to fly again.
Well, regardless of the eventual outcome of the meeting, Trump will lie or invent some bollocksy story about his role in bringing it about anyway. These kinds of weapon should be banned, period.
