Discussion: Trump Threatens Tax On European Cars After EU Slams Steel Tariff

I thought I’d drop this little gem somewhere on TPM.
It’s from cnn.com wherein trump muses about being president for life like the leader of China.
https://www.cnn.com/2018/03/03/politics/trump-maralago-remarks/index.html
No matter that the 22nd amendment stands in his way or that Xi is a communist (imagine a president saying this in the 1950’s during the “red scare” days of Sen. Joseph McCarthy).
I sure hope that Mueller has the goods on trump.

Here’s an image of what THE WORLD-WIDE ASSHOLE has cornered. However, he’s losing a bit of his investment, since it is on fire. Yes, this is just one of many bullshit mountains.

YES to both. And if he’s not a Russian agent then his many business interests are mob fronts. But an asshole he remains.
edit to add
but never a mean word is directed at Russia…ever.

What Wilbur Ross is currently describing as a very minor added expense to the end consumer is actually a tax increase that is larger than the tax savings the GOP tax plan gave to automakers.

Time maybe for action to give only Congress the authority to declare trade wars? Why are the Repugnants running duck-and-cover drills?

I read that, too, but didn’t find a similar article here. If Trump tries to pull that off, it will be torch and pitchfork time in DC, and it won’t be Nazis doing the marching.

Mr Ross’ description of the cost increase of a can of soup because of the tariff was offensive. One sixth of a cent per can he claimed. No company increases costs by that little if given a reason. in reality Ross should have indicated the cost of that can now, before the tariff and then after. This part of a penny could represent a 25% increase (trump’s quoted tariff on steel) since companies pass the costs to us.

Yes. Trumpp charged into this trade war with guns blazing. His opponents will be strategic. They will claim that they are matching the value of trade affected by Trumpp’s plan, but they will select the targets of their tariffs for maximum political impact on Trumpp’s base and on areas represented by powerful members of Congress.

It’ll be a distraction all right. Depressions do tend to seize the focus.

I heard an audio recording of that comment. There was some clapping when he said “maybe it should be looked into” so some there were receptive to the idea and that is truly scary

We do? What records are these?

More like Putin has him by the throat. (His balls are too small to provide a firm grip.) Less a mere spy than an agent provocateur.

As long as brown people are being properly harassed and more money is being thrown to the blackhole that is the US Military Complex, John Kelly is going to be happy.

How ANYBODY fell for this prick is beyond me.

The Ford Festiva, Focus, Fusion (Montego there), EcoSport, and Escape (Kuga in the EU/UK) are sold in the EU and UK. Until now we also have had hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions of the C-Max which is sold there as a non-hybrid only and also in an extended version with a sliding door. There is a smaller Ford hatchback and a couple mini-minivans sold in Europe but not here, and bigger sedans and SUV’s and pickup trucks sold here but not there. It’s just a matter of what sells where, not safety standards. I don’t think Ford exports much either way though, unless you count Fords made in Mexico. And of course a lot of parts might go back and forth; for example Festiva and Focus automatic transmissions are all made in Europe.

All BMW SUV’s (or at least all of some models) are made only here and exported to everywhere. And various cars made here have different %ages of imported parts.

So the import/export picture is complicated. Probably rather more than President* Trump thinks.

From what I’ve read that’s been done repeatedly by many people, most prominently Gary Cohn but many others. But the more you tell him not to play with fire, not to cut toward himself, not to literally look at an eclipse, the more he’s irresistibly compelled to do it. He’s sick in the head, long story short.
