Nothing like delivering a tone deaf speech while elections show that you’re incredibly weak. Whoever planned this trip with Trump in SK on election day and in Beijing after results are announced was not the sharpest tool in the shed. But, it is the Trump Administration, so there are really only dull blades.

In order to make himself look successful, Trump peddles the fiction that the past two Administrations were dangerously soft on North Korea. His tough talk and sabre rattling are supposed to pass for substance. Ironically, his tough talk depends on others, China and Putin, actually doing the diplomatic heavy lifting to accomplish what his talk cannot. As Sarah Huckabee Sanders claims they say in Arkansas, “All hat, no cowboy.”
Surfing over to Fox late last night to see how they were (mis-) playing the election results, I happened upon Laura Ingraham covering this speech and bringing on two “experts” (both warmongers of dubious sanity and the exact same POV). The Pravda-like hagiography was wince-worthy. You would have thought Trump was Churchill telling us to fight against some mighty power on the beaches. They went on and on about how brilliant the speech was, the forceful manner in which it was delivered, how he said just what had to be said at this moment in history … vomit … vomit … vomit.
This is where we are: The weakest, most insecure bully in fifth-grade gets to feel like a big man by making bellicose rants toward a dangerous, trigger-happy, tinpot dictator.
