Discussion: Trump Takes Aim At 'Obsolete' NATO And Predicts More Departures From The EU

Trump’s statecraft.
THROW IT UP IN THE AIR AND HOPE
70 years of alliance to prevent war in Europe is obsolete he says (shakes head).
Trump could get us all killed.

Trump does not understand the reason NATO exists.

Aaaaand in a continuing series of astonishing but undoubtedly completely innocent coincidences, everything Trump says about foreign policy is on Putin’s wish list.

Four days.

Like the United States Constitution.

Trump clearly doesn’t know what he’s talking about. He’s simply following his go-to strategy of divide, divide, divide.

The EU has been mostly an American project, fostered by us, because when Europeans are not united, World Wars happen, and the last two cost us too many fine young men and too much treasure.

This bit of insidious union busting is Putin’s revenge for Reagan’s. And it shows Trump’s ignorance and gullibility. Again.

Damned refugees, it’s all their fault.

(Basically this is what I heard Trump saying in this article)

If Merkel hangs on or a center-left coalition takes power in Germany and not-Marine Le Pen wins in France, this might be the biggest shot in the arm the EU has ever had.

@blandsten Trump calls them “illegals”, too. The man knows nothing.

As I said earlier, this is the EXACT same feeling I got in the early days of the Iraq War. The feeling that America was gonna walk into an area (then: the Middle East. now: Europe) and reset everything to our likes and specifications with gross stupidity and over exaggerated hubris.

We’re still paying for that.

Contrary to what some on the Left beleive, I don’t think Rump will get us involved in a physical war. He’s too isolationist for that. He will, I believe, get us into a trade war that we will lose and not be able to come back from. We won’t be able to come back from it because many formerly Euro. allies will just walk away from us, take their business elsewhere.

This is going to be especially necessary on their parts when Putin oversteps the boundaries, tries to “reclaim” Mother Russia’s land and Rump sits back and decides it’s not America’s problem.

Shit just got real. TRUMP = PUTIN

Maybe it’s time to dismantle the US? It’s becoming a danger to the world.

Eisenhower is spinning so fast in his grave right now that we could generate enough power to run the entire country with it.
Wow.

Yep. Those are Vladimir Putin’s orders. Europeans should recognize now that the US is not a reliable partner anymore and scramble to set up post new security organizations, and yes it’s going to cost them a whole bunch of money, better start doing it, Putin… err Trump is not going to change his mind.

As for our beloved neighbor to the south, all hell is going to break loose, they are totally f!@#ed. And yes they will pay for the “wall”, one way or another. More than 80% of Mexico’s exports are to the US, but as a percentage of the total exports from the US to Mexico are small, so there is no way they stand that fight. Plus the US president could order a few airstrikes and that’s that. And trust me, the humiliation of Mexico would ensure a GOP majority in Congress for the next four years and very likely the Trumps re-election.

And that’s just Eisenhower. Think about what Patton is doing…or getting ready to do.

And what makes you think that he is going to be all that respecfull of the constitution?.

As he said, a weakened Sterling is good for the UK. And Trump.

He should. He essentially IS the reason NATO exists.

Gen. Mattis: But I talked to him about what NATO is, and he seemed to understand (before he got distracted).

If the professionals in the cabinet think they’re going to stop the Bannon/Manafort agenda, they’re fooling themselves.
