It’s such a dumb excuse…yet, they let him slide. Edward R Murrow is turning over in his grave.

What he fears revealing speaks volumes about what he is hiding in the shadows.

So Trump never had any business with Russians, except for that time he sold a house to one … and that time he held a Miss Univers pageant with them … and that time a bunch of Russians wanted to work with him but, uh, it didn’t, uh … work out … uh …

Don’t be so scared, Derpy-D, the House GOP/Teatrolls are still abusing their power to invent witch-hunts and time them to create news during the DNC convention:

The timing of it all couldn’t be more obvious. They are FUCKING DESPERATE.

His son wasn’t talking about investment money he wanted…he was specifically claiming investment money they had. And it was overwhelmingly Russian.

“Russians make up a pretty disproportionate cross-section of a lot of our assets,” Trump’s son, Donald Jr., told a real estate conference in 2008, according to an account posted on the website of eTurboNews, a trade publication. “We see a lot of money pouring in from Russia.”

I urge everyone to read the entire article. Trump has been trying to get into Moscow business in a big way ,for a very long time. He laid out those hopes in the book he loves to tout, “The Art of the Deal”. Trump claimed that a deal he was working to build a “Trump Tower” in Moscow fell through when a 2005 book came out questioning his net worth, and that spooked the Russians.

I know. I wasn’t quoting facts, I was condensing Trump’s excuse-making.

But it’s still a good reminder.

I built an unbelievable company, tremendous cash, tremendous company, some of the great assets of the world. You’ve seen it. You were all very disappointed when you saw it actually, but that’s okay. Far greater than anybody ever thought. I have a great company. I built an unbelievable company," he said. “But if you look there, you’ll see there’s nothing in Russia.”

For once, I agree with Donald. I don’t believe it.

“How many times do I have to say it? Are you a smart man? I have nothing to do with Russia,” he continued. “What do I have to do with Russia?”

The answer to “Are you a smart man?” should be, “Yes, I am smart enough to know when someone is parsing his words and making statements which are in direct contradiction to the public record. The public has a vested interest in knowing if you are lying or dissembling now, or if the many public documents detailing Russian investments flowing into your company, and the many public statements from your family and close business associates bragging about those investments are all incorrect.”

Trump is lying. I don’t blame him; he has gotten away with lying time and time again - as blatantly as stating “no one is calling for a ban on Muslims” while his web site still proudly featured his statement from December starting “I, Donald J Trump, am calling for a ban on Muslims entering this country”.

The thing is, he is lying stupidly. There is no reason for him to lie about having made business deals with Russians in the past. He admits selling one single house to a person of Russian descent? There are dozens more examples that are verified in the public record. Why lie about those? They are simply business deals. A world-class businessman, as Trump wants himself to be seen, needs to complete business deals around the world. So why lie about those?

The only rational reasons for him to lie are:

  1. He is simply a pathological liar. I can not discount this as a very real possibility.
  2. Those business deals are far from “innocent” and furthered Russian state interests in exchange for lining Trump’s pockets.
  3. Trump knows his drooling idiot brigade of xenophobes and misogynists would prefer to think that Russia has no part in the world economy and thus any contact with Russia will lose Trump votes.

I don’t think (3) is right, though. Trump loudly and proudly portrays V Putin as a mastermind leader with great character and stunning pecs. Trump’s mouth-breather brigade loves them some Putin. Official Russian backing of Trump could be portrayed as Putin’s endorsement and only cement that crowd’s admiration of Dear Leader.

Which leaves (2) as the only non-sociopathic option. There is smoke there, and someone telling us the air smells perfectly clean to them. I suspect they are hoping we don’t investigate further and find the fire behind that smoke.
