It will float like a Led Zeppelin…
…because every time he does it, breathless stenographers and the occasional reporter immediately rush to shout about it breathlessly.
So…good job, TPM.
Trump Still Floating National Emergency To Get His Border Wall
And yet, there’s no money for real emergencies . . .
Seriously, he said this too and there is no evidence that federal employees support not being paid.

Trump said the “threshold” for declaring an emergency would be if no deal is reached with Congress to reopen the government.
I think this equation is missing a variable.
Clearly, the most apt metaphor of Trump is a floater.

Yeah, when somebody demonstrates that they’ll chicken out on X, when X sounded like a long shot to begin with, especially when they fancy themselves a showman and they had a chance to do X on a big stage, don’t take them with more than a grain of salt when they say “oh but maybe X, maybe X!”
So it’s clear. He wanted to declare a national emergency. His staff (and Madame Coulter) told him no. He went belly up on tv not declaring an emergency.
So now he’s back to his original idea. If he’d done it his way, he would’ve come out on top.
It’s always the same.
I am afraid he wasted his last Viagra pill on wanking on national TV last night. It was then the time to do it to get the most of republican support. After threatening for a week with an “emergency” and then failing to pull the trigger, he comes of as a wishy-washy loudmouth.
If a massive wall is somehow built, there are already hundreds of miles of existing wall and fence it would according to a companion article in today’s Washington Post take at least 10 years and 10,000 workers were to construct.
Say the so called emergency is non existent years after it’s built what’s to stop Mexico from going full 1989 East Berlin and tearing it down. Or the folks in binational cities like El Paso taking measures into their own hands.
On the wall, at this point, the only way he gets any attention is to scream “NATIONAL EMERGENCY. Or won’t I? Keep tuned to my Twitter feed, because it’ll get out from there long before anyone in my administration knows about it.”
So maybe the solution is…nah.
Yeah, he blew it, now he has a weaker hand
This is the slippery slope that Trump is going to opt to slide down for survival?
it has been looking more and more like various walls are closing in on him - and to survive he likely will have to take some contrived power-play actions … virtually any variation of which will be messy (but remember - he loves messy - because normal order, rules & gravity are suspended) Granted he is often stupid - but he does know that something like this will have huge consequences - it is such an over reach that there will be strong moves to seek retribution - which will make the “national Emergency” thing like crack for him - he will need to keep taking hits of it …
President on Wednesday said he has an “absolute right” to do so.
Well, who am I to argue with a constitutional expert like Donald Trump?
Now it’s human trafficing. It is a serious problem but not a national emergency. Take the money for the phony “war on drugs” and fund incursions into Central America along with local police and military. where the drugs originate and eradicate them along with the cartels. It slowed the drugs from Columbia. That would reduce gang violence causing refugees seeking asylum. Take marijuana off the Class 1 list and stop chasing something harmless.
The president has no bloody “rights”, he has responsibilities, authorities and some privileges, “rights” are something monarchs could have.
fuck yes.
fuck no.
Well, the barrier would be built on US soil, a few dozen yards from the actual border. So, anyone walking up to it would be on US territory, (so invasion and all that jazz) . . . and therefore legally eligible to seek asylum. Not sure if Steve Miller thought this one through.
