Yup. Bound to happen. Everything gets boring after a while, especially when you are a one-trick pony.
OT a bit, but interesting: Now that Madam Speaker has called Spankee to heel, Pootie is doing the same by telling him to butt out on Venezuela, where Spankee is supporting the opposition leader and Pootie isn’t.
If we see a change in US posture on this in the next few days, we’ll know just how tightly Pootie has twisted Spankee’s balls.
Warning: Collusion ahead.
The last thing Trump, and his supporters in the business world, want is effective interior enforcement. Putting effective systems in place that would lead to the reduction of undocumented workers or punish employers who hire them is exactly what they do not want. Vilify undocumented immigrants and build a wall that does essentially nothing to stop their presence in the workforce is one thing, punish employers, heaven forbid.
Lol at republican donors allowing e-verify to pass. That might actually do something about illegal immigration. Then those same asshats know they’ll have to push for more legal immigration to keep the cheap labor supply train running which will be a nightmare dealing with their base.
Making Coulter and Limbaugh and FoxNews and the rest of that rancid lot eat shit can only be good for America.
and reducing legal immigration than a few miles of wall.
Another indicator that this has less to do with “enforcing the law” as they claim, than old fashion know nothing style racism.
This is 110% correct, but I would just note that “big business” is by and large in favor of immigration and fixing the system. They want legal workers. It is grifters like Trump and his supporters, those with exploitative labor intensive industries (meat packing, janitorial contractors, hospitality) who are behind the current con-job on “illegal immigration”
The National Review, etc, has know that what Trump was pulling was a Con, but they wanted to go along with a “winner” and “own the libs”. They are/were willing to support Trump in anything, so long as they win. We are only now seeing some comments about how the Wall is not the hill to die upon, and the focus ought to be on enforcement, because they fear that Trump’s current actions are undercutting his ability to win. They are not leading the charge, rather what they are now saying is an effort to avoid blame when Trump comes crashing down in flames.
Yeah, and wait until someone shows Trump a map of our coastline. A border wall won’t touch the basically infinite points of entry along there.
Oooh, it’s PR rebranding time. The rest of us have characterized FAIR for decades as “anti-immigration” rather than “pro-enforcement”.
I wonder who spilled the beans about Trump thinking that the wall was all that he wanted to do? And which organization on the right felt conflicted about the government taking private property for this idee fixe of the President?
Step function.
This is welcome but it doesn’t do much to get the government back working. Trump has no idea who Reihan Salam is. The most influential person in America right now is probably Hannity’s broker. He or she could get things going. Not Reihan or Conor Friedersdorf or the few remaining conservawriter types.
Trump: Coast Guard should have a new fleet of the greatest submarines ever built.
As long as Spanky needs undocumented immigrants to work in his resorts and Golf courses there is virtually no chance of bolstering E verify despite, or because, that would be something that would actually work.
But yeah those are the conservatives with half a brain. The #MAGA hat wearing knukledraggers don’t give a shit, they just want to trigger the liberals.
Where I live, Farming is a 12 billion + annual economy in just two small counties. Farmers vote exclusively GOP and continue to write Letters To The Editor about the “need” for effective immigration. Undocumented Field workers makes up over 90% of the area’s farm employees. Big Ag cannot do without the supply of labor and now they will have to pay overtime (California) like other businesses and haven’t really complained. Yet, still cannot get U.S. citizens to pick strawberries, onions, lettuce and every other crop. They also do not want E-verify.
OMIGOD…no vanity wall AND no parade??? Donnie’s gonna have some serious tweeting to do!
Careful guys, you don’t want to spoil Donald’s 2020 theme !

Trump is likely on the verge of lashing out in a very detrimental fashion. He’s been exposed to the nation as a fraud. All hat and no cattle. But I think there is a danger in that. His supporters are a cult, and they’re heavily invested in him maintaining the aura of power and invincibility they thought they voted for. Consequently this comeuppance for him will likewise be felt as a comeuppance for his base. His failure to perform as expected will translate as a failure on their part to also perform, in the voting booth two years ago. They cast their lot with a loser. They’re all one big fail. And their coming to terms with that will be fraught with the potential for a lot of problems.
