Discussion: Trump Socks CNN Over Report On Hat Signing: 'Can You Imagine My Saying NO?'

Actually, no. I can’t imagine YOU saying no to anything that flatters you. I can however, and would actually expect a reasonably knowledgeable president to decline politely on the basis of it being inappropriate in that setting.

The slew of Sharpies are on the table to sign something…

We brought or gave NO hats as the Fake News first reported!

Considering who is speaking here, I’d say the jury’s still out on whether or not this is a bald faced lie.

No, Toadglans, we can’t imagine you not doing anything and everything to stoke your own ego.

The issue isn’t even that you were (once again) in violation of long-standing presidential protocol, something we all expect and that your supporters hold dear. The real issue is that military personnel were in flagrant violation of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, something you would know something about had you not developed bone spurs to gain your fifth deferment.

Anyone have any information on the origin of those hats?

I have seen commenters on WaPo assert that they were definitely handed out to the troops - and a CNN correspondent was skeptical about Trump’s claims, but is there any more information about this?

My suspicion of course is that Trump brought the hats, and had them handed out, and is lying about it – like he does with everything, all the time. But is there any firm supporting evidence?

One thing we know is they were made in CHINA, not in the good ol’ US. of A!

What I can’t imagine is that Donald Trump would say “I’ll sign your hats in private. No photos by the press corps, please.”

I am quite sure that these Service members would not have been permitted to bring the hats to the charade, if, in fact, they were allowed to have them at all. When in uniform, which you are when deployed (all of the time) you don’t wear SWAG.

“Brought or gave NO hats,” eh? I presume that means the cheap grifter offered them at a special discount for one day only. “They’ll be collectors’ items! Get 'em while they’re hot! With one free steak and a bottle of house brand Ripple!”

I would find it ODD that ALL these soldiers brought MAGA hats to the war zone. Maybe I’m stupid…but it just doesn’t make sense. Don’t they have limits on what they can bring?

Actually I wouldn’t expect him to say no for the reasons he states.

Really the staff is there to do that for him. They should have ensured this couldn’t even be requested of the president. (as should their commanding officers)

Of course instead staff likely ensured the photo-op. I’m sure the ( brand new looking) hats were distributed

On the other hand, Trump will use anyone to advance his political agenda, including the brave men and women of our military who fight everyday to protect our freedom. But, hey, IOKIYAR.

So they made you do it?

Good lord. He is always always always the victim.

By the way, I hope they get disciplined because the event should have been strictly apolitical— not a campaign rally where the Dotard rails against Democrats.

Since Trump knows nothing about bravery he should keep his mouth shut.

We had command order them to pay full price for those hats.

I can only imagine the MAGAt hats (made in Jina) were handed out just before his arrival, along with the Trump 2020 signs and personal loyalty pledges.

“Sorry, Honey. I don’t have room for the photos of you and the kids. I have to make sure that I have room for my MAGA hat.”

EXACTLY…it’s bad enough when it gives stump speeches to the troops stateside. BUT this is on foreign soil. Politicians should never be this partisan in other countries…particularly not the freaking president.

I am so concerned that we will never be able to return the office to its former standards.

Trump signing the hats was less egregious (presuming he didn’t distribute them) than the false and politically divisive comments in his campaign rally-like speeches. The man simply cannot comprehend the world except within his own personal interests and grudges…it’s pathological.
